Incubus To Perform ‘Morning View’ In Its Entirety In Detroit On Limited Tour
Incubus is headed back to Detroit to celebrate their iconic album ‘Morning View’! The band is doing a limited run of tour dates that kick off at Little Caesars Arena on August 23rd.
You might be asking, ‘is this year a milestone anniversary for the album?’ No, oddly enough, it’s not. Incubus released ‘Morning View’ on October 23rd, 2001. In October 2023, the band decided to re-record and re-release the album as Morning View XXIII. It’s due out on May 10th, 2024. You can pre-order the album HERE. You can also register to win tickets to the Detroit show HERE.
In a press release, Brandon Boyd had this to say about the album:
“Roughly 23 years ago we rented a house at the sea to do an art experiment. The novel and expansive environment combined with a healthy dose of momentum helped us find that ever sought after FLOW state and the songs that became known as ‘Morning View’ have since become indelible and deeply important parts of our lives. This album helped propel our little art experiment called ‘Incubus’ into a way of life and here we are today, some 23 years later, about to introduce a new/next phase of it’s existence. ‘Morning View xxiii’ is a re-recording/re-think of the 2001 album and is the result of our desire to honor this burgeoning legacy but also reimagine it as musicians who have been lovingly performing these songs night after night for the last 23 years. See you on the road soon!”
I first became a fan of Incubus my freshman year of high school. ‘Make Yourself’ had just been released a year prior and “Drive” was one of the number one songs on the radio. I instantly fell in love with their sound and entire image. ‘Morning View’ came out shortly after that and was definitely a CD we had on repeat hanging out in my friends basement. I haven’t missed an Incubus show in Detroit since the first time I saw them in 2009. Yes, it took me 7 years to finally see one of my favorite bands in concert.
In fact, when I was 21, I got the lyrics “Pardon me while I burst into flames” tattooed. Yeah, I’m that fan. A few years ago, Incubus performed ‘Make Yourself’ in its entirety at the Fox Theatre in Detroit. They always put on a great show and if you’re a fan, you do not want to miss them at LCA in August!
12 Albums That Turn 20 in 2024
Many albums that turn 20 in 2024 still sound as fresh today as when they were first released two decades ago.
In 2004, rock fans saw some of their favorite bands take significant risks. Frankly, you can’t talk about this year without talking about Green Day. Their seventh studio album, American Idiot, was an absolute triumph, and it helped solidify the band as one of the best bands of their generation. American Idiot was a critical and commercial success. Not only has it sold over 16 million copies worldwide. On top of that, the album won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album, with “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” also winning the Grammy for Record of the Year.
The early aughts saw a new resurgence of the “supergroup.” One of the best to emerge during that time was Velvet Revolver. The band was fronted by Stone Temple Pilots singer Scott Weiland. Completing the lineup was rhythm guitarist Dave Kushner and notable Guns N’ Roses members Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum. Their debut album, Contraband, would go double platinum in the United States.
The alt. rock world saw three notable debuts in 2004. Arcade Fire released Funeral, while Franz Ferdinand dropped their self-titled LP. The biggest release, however, came from The Killers. Their debut album, Hot Fuss, was released in June, and it features “Somebody Told Me,” “Smile Like You Mean It,” “All These Things That I’ve Done” and “Mr. Brightside.”
The latter track is so ubiquitous that a Dec. 2023 piece published by The New York Times stated, “If boomers gave the masses ‘Don’t Stop Believin’,’ millennials can claim ‘Mr. Brightside’ as the generation’s official entry into that canon: a song that gets everybody at the bar shout-singing along.

Jade was born and raised in Detroit Rock City and grew up listening to Led Zeppelin, The Who, Tom Petty, etc. In high school she tried multiple different styles from cheerleader to goth but couldn’t do gymnastics and couldn’t get her eyeliner dark enough. She settled on jeans and a t-shirt, playing sports and making normal situations overly awkward. When she’s not making bad jokes on the radio you can find her shanking golf balls into the woods on the golf course and drinking beers at the bar. She has a strict two shot limit when it comes to tequila. Jade enjoys writing and talking about everything happening in Detroit Rock City, our Detroit sports teams, golf, and her fear of robots.
