There are a lot of BIG concerts coming in 2023 and there are a few that I’m pretty excited for! Obviously Metallica for starters. 2 nights, in the round at Ford Field and they won’t play the same song twice! Count me in! Second on my list is Blink-182. I’ve been a massive Blink fan since I was an angsty teenager, and I’ve seen them at least five times and once at the Pepsi Center in Colorado. I’m also SUPER pumped that Turnstile is opening up for them. I had the chance to see them when they played Detroit in 2022 but something came up and I had to miss it. It’s going to be a great show. I’m also looking forward to seeing our good friends in Badflower. They always put on a great show, and there’s no doubt this one will be nothing short of spectacular!

That being said, I was thinking back on 2022 as we finally had concerts come back in full swing and I went to some good ones. Here’s my list of top concerts from 2022 (in no particular order):

  • Riff Fest 2022 at Pine Knob

Disturbed, In This Moment, Dirty Honey, Dorothy, the Violent and that was just the main stage! Then, we rocked with a few Michigan bands on the festival stage like Of Virtue, Eva Under Fire and Plush, and Fame on Fire rocked the stage as well. Riff Fest is always a BLAST, and I am DEFINITELY looking forward to Riff Fest 2023!

  • Jack White at the Masonic

Detroit man Jack White kicked off his tour in April at the Masonic with 2 shows. I was at the first one which was amazing!! Jack always puts on a great show, and I was happy to be in attendance for the marriage. In fact, my buddy sitting next to me looked over and was like, “are you crying?!” And while trying to hide the tears I had I rolled my eyes and said, “NO!” But I was. Jack also doesn’t allow phones at his concerts which I think is actually one of the greatest parts about being at a Jack White show!

  • Beartooth at the Shelter

You read that right. Beartooth wrapped up their tour with A Day To Remember and decided to play a small show at the Shelter on their way home to Columbus. Not only that, but they did a little acoustic set for our listeners before the show. Beartooth is hands down one of my favorite bands and I can’t wait to see what they have in store for 2023!

  • Metallica at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas

I was fortunate enough to be at a rock radio convention in Las Vegas the week Metallica was playing Allegiant Stadium so a bunch of us rockers decided to go. Talk about a party! Of course Metallica will be playing Ford Field this November for 2 shows like I mentioned above and you bet your ass I will be there to rock with all of you!

  • I Prevail at the Fillmore

Michigan’s own I Prevail had their homecoming shows at the Fillmore for WRIF’s Thanksgiving Throwdown and boy did they throwdown. It’s awesome to see these guys represent our state and I’m really pumped to see the next chapter in their rock journey!

  • Ghost at the Huntington Center in Toledo

This show happened early in 2022, February to be exact and yes, I made the trek down to Toledo to see them. You all know, Ghost is one of my favorite bands and since they weren’t making a stop in Detroit, I had to make sure to see them in Toledo. The show was probably the best Ghost show I’ve ever seen (and I’ve seen them A LOT). The theatrics are next level, the costume changes are fantastic and they blasted the whole place with confetti. It was great! If you’ve never seen Ghost, I highly suggest checking out their live show!

  • Highly Suspect at the Fillmore

Highly Suspect has been one of my favorites for years and when they came to town on my birthday weekend, I had to go! That was also the week their latest single “Natural Born Killers” went number one on the active rock chart. They gave WRIF a shout out on stage which was super cool. Pumped to see more from them in 2023!
