Riff Session With Beartooth
Caleb Shomo of Beartooth leans back for a scream at Royal Oak Music Theatre on January 16, 2024.
We hosted another classic Riff Session with Beartooth back in January at the Royal Oak Music Theatre!
Check out the footage below! Beartooth are currently on a SOLD OUT tour through the United States and made their stop in Michigan back in January. The guys are not new to performing acoustic sets and took the time to hang out with some Riff listeners backstage!
Beartooth’s latest album ‘The Surface’ was released back in October 2023. Their latest single ‘Might Love Myself” is the bands first single to reach number one on the Mainstream Rock Charts! This is their 11th song to chart and to score a number 1 is no easy feat!
Frontman Caleb Shomo has been very open about his struggles with mental health and has recently taken a more positive approach on writing music. During an acoustic set back in 2022 he even mentioned using more pop influences in his music like Backstreet Boys. The band has also been doing way more acoustic projects, and Caleb was recently featured on an acoustic version of Dayseekers “Burial Plot.” You can listen to that below our Riff Session.
Riff Sessions have been a staple at the radio station for years and we are fortunate to work with so many bands who want to connect directly with our listeners. Check out the Riff Session with Beartooth below!
Beartooth & More Sold Out Royal Oak Music Theatre
Beartooth ROCKED a sold out Royal Oak Music Theatre last night! The band kicked off their 2024 tour just a couple days ago, and it’s safe to say every show will be sold out!
Beartooth has been a personal favorite of mine for at least 10 years. They started in Columbus, OH back in 2012 and have been rocking ever since. The band evolved over their recent album cycle, and front man Caleb Shomo has credited that to focusing on his own personal mental health. The lyrics have gone from “Who knew you’d be hated for being who you are” to “I think I might love myself”. Those lyrics alone tell a story.
Beartooth has been playing sold out shows in the Motor City for quite some time as well. This is their first headlining show at the Royal Oak Music Theatre, and it did not disappoint. Previously, the band was easily selling out St. Andrews Hall. Back in 2022 they performed at the Shelter. That show sold out in hours and blew the roof off.
For the current 2024 tour, they’ve asked their friends in The Plot In You, Invent Animate and Sleep Theory to join them on the road.
The opening band, Sleep Theory, has a pretty interesting story being written. Just over a year ago, the band posted their first TikTok video. Since then, they’ve seen the effects of viral fame. The current single for Sleep Theory is titled “Numb”. After its release in May of 2023, the song is still going strong on the Active Rock Radio Charts. The Plot In You also has a new single out titled “Closure” which is just getting it’s start in the radio cycle.
Before taking the stage last night, Beartooth took the time to hang out with a few WRIF listeners and perform some acoustic songs.
Their latest album “The Surface” is out now!
Jade was born and raised in Detroit Rock City and grew up listening to Led Zeppelin, The Who, Tom Petty, etc. In high school she tried multiple different styles from cheerleader to goth but couldn’t do gymnastics and couldn’t get her eyeliner dark enough. She settled on jeans and a t-shirt, playing sports and making normal situations overly awkward. When she’s not making bad jokes on the radio you can find her shanking golf balls into the woods on the golf course and drinking beers at the bar. She has a strict two shot limit when it comes to tequila. Jade enjoys writing and talking about everything happening in Detroit Rock City, our Detroit sports teams, golf, and her fear of robots.
