Miguel Cabrera to Play in Venezuelan League Next Year
Miguel Cabrera isn’t done playing baseball just yet, he’s signed on to play in the Venezuelan League next year!
Miggy had an incredible career in the MLB and spent the last 15 years playing for our Detroit Tigers. During his final season, every team in the league paid tribute to him offering him gifts to represent their cities.
Miguel Cabrera debuted in the league in 2003 playing for the Florida Marlins who went on to win the World Series that year. He spent the next 4 years in Florida before coming to the Motor City. Although the Tigers didn’t win a championship title with Miggy, he certainly accomplished some big achievements with the team. In 2012, during the Tigers’ run through the playoffs, Miguel won the Triple Crown. He had a .330 batting average, 44 home runs and 139 RBIs.
So, what’s going on in the Venezuelan League?
Miguel Cabrera was born in Venezuela on April 18th, 1983. Now after retiring from the MLB, he’s going to finally wrap up his career with one last season in his home country for the Venezuelan League. The Tigers legend will play for the Tigres de Aragua. Earlier this week, he participated in the Venezuelan version of the Home-Run Derby and told reporters his plan for the next year. Over the next 10 months, he plans to condition and get his right knee in a better situation. He told reporters he wants to make this final season in Venezuela as big as it was here in the United States.
What’s next for the Detroit Tigers?
The Tigers will begin the 2024 season on the road against the Chicago White Sox. The home opener will take place on Friday, April 5th against the Athletics. Nothing like a Tigers Opening Day party on a Friday! How does the team look heading into the next season? Let’s be honest, despite the Miggy celebrations all during the 2023 season, it was rough for the Tigers. They managed to take 2nd place in the in AL Central with a 78-84 record. It’s safe to say the AL Central is not a strong division at this point. Here’s to hoping we have a solid season in 2024! Go Tigers!
