Thank You, Red Wings- Screamin Scott
Sunday turned out to be a wonderful day. The Weather was beautiful and got to spend an entire day with my father. A lot of you know him as “Screamin’ Pops.” We had planned this day for a few weeks that both of our Sunday schedules were open. This Sunday included a Red Wings hockey game at Little Casers against the “Anaheim Ducks.”
First off, Dad asked if I would come a little early and watch the Lions game. I thought to myself, is this some kind of punishment for something I did as a child? I accepted the invitation and was at his place at 1 p.m. The Lions looked good for a few then the bottom fell out. It didn’t matter, because my mind was set on a Red Wing game at 5 p.m.
The seats we had were from a good friend of my father’s who also joined in on the festivities. This brings me to the first part of the story of my personal, “Thank You,” to the Wings.
A few years back on the WRIF “Sin City Takeover” of Las Vegas, I went to a Vegas Knights hockey game and was blown away by the Vegas-style production and wondered why Red Wings games were not as exciting as a Knights Hockey games. Years passed and went to a game or two untill the game I witnessed tonight at the LCA. What an incredible comeback of excitement that was all around the building.
Upon just walking into the building, I was met by “The Red Wings Drum Line.” I didn’t know we had a drum line? Also, I ran into Red Wings former player Drew Miller who is commentating with an in-house crew during the game. The in-house DJ was incredible. Gone are the days where the music DJ in the arena would play Pat Benetar. The music is all updated and fun. The interactions with the crowd were nonstop during breaks in the game and the light effects and video screens were mind-blowing. All in all, it made me proud to see the effort put into one hockey game. The Wings defeated the Ducks 5-1 and looked sharp through the whole game. I’ve got a good feeling so far this year. I even heard Meltdown whispers of maybe a playoff appearance this year.
The Wings’ win wasn’t the only win Sunday. Spending a complete day with my father was the best gift anyone could ask for. So I would like to personally thank the Red Wings and the entire organization for a day I will remember and God willing hope to repeat soon.
