In a recent Revolver interview, Lars Ulrich from Metallica was asked about playing with the revamped Pantera on the upcoming tour. He said he was excited, and impressed after watching video from the Mexico shows. He said they’re “In the pocket” and that it will be fun to have them out with the ‘Tallica boys again. He added that he’s all about celebrating the music and magic of Pantera.
Of course, you can see them here when the RIFF presents Metallica on November 10th and 12th at Ford Field. Pantera will open with Mammoth WVH the first night.
On July 4, 2003, Metallica kicked off their Sumer Sanitarium Tour at the Pontiac Silverdome. The tour featured Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Deftones and Mudvayne as the opening acts. Since Detroit was the first date of the tour, Metallica had to do some stage rehearsals and they invited us and some lucky WRIF listeners to check out this once in a lifetime experience. Listeners got to watch Metallica perform a full dressed rehearsal with pyro. You can check out some photos from that day before the tour officially kicked off the next day below. One cool fact about this tour was that it was bassist Robert Trujillo’s first tour with the band after replacing longtime bassist Jason Newsted. So I guess you can say we got to see Roberts first ever show with Metallica! Were you lucky enough to check out the rehearsal and/or the fourth of July show? Let us know in the comments!
