During a recent appearance on my Talkin' Rock with Meltdown podcast, Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler and I discussed many topics surrounding the band and his memoir, "Into The Void."

Geezer Butler Reaches Out To Ozzy

In the book, he mentioned how he keeps in touch with the other members mostly through email. I asked him if he was still in touch with the other guys. "I speak to Ozzy practically every other day." He went on to talk about a time when he couldn't get ahold of the legendary singer. "I was sending him to get well, things and stuff like that, and asking how he was, and it wasn't getting through to him. And he thought I was just totally ignoring him. But apparently, somebody in his office was just like, not passing the messages on. So I finally got in touch with our mutual accountant and, told him, What's happening, can you tell Ozzy, you know, I have been trying to get in touch with him, but it's not going anywhere." He said once Ozzy found out, he got right back to Geezer. "Ozzy got straight back on to me and apologized and everything, and we're great. Probably closer than ever now."

Other Topics Geezer And I Discussed

We discussed the pinnacle of Geezer's bass playing on Black Sabbath albums. "I like the stuff on Mob Rules. I was pleased with the bass playing on Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules because I could concentrate more on the bass since Ronnie was writing the lyrics."

He also told me why he decided to write a book. "I always wanted to write a memoir for my grandkids, to better understand my life beyond what they read in the press."
