Shinedown Drummer Barry Kerch Gives New Music Update “We’re Deep In The Thick Of It”
Shinedown drummer Berry Kerch appeared on the Talkin’ Rock with Meltdown podcast this week and gave an update on the band’s process of creating new music for their next album.
Berry Talks New Shinedown Music
Shinedown’s next album will be their 8th, following 2022’s Planet Zero record. So just how far along are they? Barry responded “Yeah, we’re deep in the thick of it. I spent last week in Charleston with Eric (Bass the band’s bass player/producer) recording drum parts for some new songs, percussion, and other fun things. So we’re in it and working hard on it. We have a few more to write for sure, but, between shows and releasing Hot Sauces and Brent (singer Brent Smith) doing his acoustic things with Zach (guitarist Zack Myers), we’re in the thick of it. And I think there’ll be something sooner than later. I think by the end of the year, beginning next year, you’ll start hearing some new Shinedown.”
That sounds promising, but there’s a lot of work to do. Barry went on “There’s some that are in their final stages, that have, you know, are way past the demo mode. The songs that I recorded last week which is more than four, less than seven songs.” He said they probably have a handful of songs left to write.
Barry Spoke Of The Goal For Shinedown Albums
Barry said their goal is always to write a great complete album, as opposed to an album with a few singles and filler. “You know, it’s always you want to write more and then pick the best ones that sonically go together and make a solid record because that’s Shinedown’s thing because we like to make a record that you can listen to front to back. We don’t like just here’s a single, here’s a single. There’s nothing wrong with that. Some bands do that, but that’s just not our M.O.”
Looking forward to hearing new Shinedown soon.
