Heart Eyes – Non Spoiler Movie Review

If you were thinking of watching Heart Eyes as a romantic night out this weekend, might I suggest anything else?

I took in the movie over the weekend so you don’t have to. I’m all for a good slasher horror movie, but I found this one eye-rollingly dumb. Every cheesy horror cliche wrapped up in an hour-and-a-half film.

Heart Eyes Is In Theaters Now

The movie takes place in Seattle where it’s coming up on Valentine’s Day. For the past few years, the Valentine’s Day murderer “Heart Eyes” has stalked couples and gruesomely killed them throughout the country. This year is no exception. The movie starts with a couple becoming engaged, and it’s actually somewhat humorous. It goes downhill from there.

The movie follows Ally (Olivia Holt) and Jay Simmons (Mason Gooding), who meet at a local coffee shop in a very typical romantic comedy sort of way. Turns out, Jay has been asked to come into the marketing company that Ally works at to help in a campaign. I mean, what are the chances?!?! They end up going to dinner, then followed and stalked by the killer, and a lot of predictable events take place. Like I said earlier, it’s an eye-roller of a film.

There are many things I didn’t like about this movie. First, I HATE rom-coms and this movie had more of that than I wanted. Secondly, on purpose or not, there was some terrible dialogue in the movie. A few times they talked directly to the killer in an absurd way. Third, it was “Scream” like. The killer’s identity isn’t revealed till almost the end of the movie. I’m not a fan of the Scooby Doo reveal. Spoiler alert, this movie had more than one Heart Eyes killer, and one of them didn’t make any sense to me.

I’ll admit, I went into this movie prepared for the worst, and that’s what I got. I’m giving this movie a 1 1/2 out of 5.

Jack Black is one of the best, most charming creative forces in entertainment. Seriously, there’s seemingly nothing he can’t do. He’s a very talented musician and musical performer, as seen in his work with Tenacious D and in films like School of Rock. He even created a viral hit with “Peaches” as Bowser from The Super Mario Bros. Movie. He can also do drama, as seen in 2005’s King Kong. He can even be an adorable leading man, like in 2006’s The Holiday, which is a far superior holiday rom-com compared to Love, Actually. (Yes, we said!) However, to celebrate the actor’s birthday today (August 28), we can’t help be take a look at music movies. In addition to School of Rock, Black is known for his hilarious comedic work in another music movie. (We won’t name it here, but we’ll see if you can guess it now before scrolling through our list.) From major hits to lesser-known titles, here are 12 music movies everyone should watch.

Moving to the Motor City from Buffalo, N.Y., he has built a career and family. He boasts of being just the second-afternoon drive jock in the station's illustrious 53-year history. Along with his love for rock music and attending concerts, he's also an avid Harley-Davidson enthusiast and hockey player.
