Wednesday 13 & Meltdown

If you like your rock music dark, twisted, and laced with a little horror—then Wednesday 13 is your guy. The shock rock frontman is gearing up to drop his 10th studio album, Mid-Death Crisis, on April 25th, followed by a tour that brings him to The Machine Shop in Flint on April 26th. I caught up with him to talk about the new record, his love of horror, and—oh yeah—the time he literally had to put out a fire while filming a music video.

Horror and Headbanging: A Perfect Match

If you know anything about Wednesday 13, it’s that the guy lives and breathes horror. So, naturally, I had to ask him—what was the last horror flick he watched?

“I’m terrible at keeping up with new stuff,” he admitted. “I just rewatch the classics like they’re brand new.” His most recent? Day of the Dead—a choice inspired by a rare sunny day in Burbank.

I told him I’d just seen The Monkey, which, if you haven’t heard, is a creepy little horror flick based on a Stephen King short story. Turns out, Wednesday had a wind-up monkey toy as a kid that scared the hell out of him, so he’s adding it to his tour watchlist.

But speaking of horror, I threw him a suggestion—on his way to The Machine Shop, he should stop at The Michigan Museum of Horror. His response?

“That sounds like my kind of place. If we have time, we’re stopping!”

Wednesday 13 The New Album: Mid-Death Crisis

Wednesday 13’s new album, Mid-Death Crisis, drops on April 25th via Napalm Records, and from what I’ve heard, it’s gonna be a monster. The first single, “When the Devil Commands,” is already out, and I told him—it’s chunky, heavy, and guaranteed to make heads bang.

Turns out, that was exactly the goal.

“I actually tested the riff on my tour bus before we made it a single,” he told me. “I just played it and watched to see if people started headbanging without realizing it. And they did. That’s when I knew.”

And for the music video? They went all in.

“We filmed inside a church,” he said. “And I thought—what’s the most insane thing to put in a church? Stripper pole? Check. Half-naked girls? Check. A snake? Check. We almost had fire, but ran out of time.”

The Fire That Almost Took Out a Music Video

But don’t worry—fire was still part of Wednesday’s week.

While filming the video for the upcoming single “In Misery”, Wednesday and his crew found themselves fighting an actual wildfire.

“We built a fake graveyard for the video,” he explained. “We’re in the middle of filming, and suddenly, a huge fire erupts on the side of the highway right near us. And we’re in California—during wildfire season.”

While most of his crew ran for their cars, Wednesday jumped the fence, grabbed buckets of dirt, and started putting the flames out.

“We had hoses, but the water wouldn’t turn on! So, we’re just throwing dirt at this thing like madmen. We actually put it out before the fire department got there.”

Later, they found out that an arsonist had been setting fires along the highway for weeks. If they hadn’t stopped it, the entire set—and possibly their gear—would have gone up in flames.

But like any good rock star, he saved the day and still finished the video.

The Machine Shop Show—And A Special Anniversary

Wednesday 13’s No Such Thing as Monsters Tour hits The Machine Shop on April 26th, just one day after the new record drops. But this tour is more than just promoting Mid-Death Crisis—it’s also a celebration of his first album, Transylvania 90210, which came out 20 years ago.

“I’m sticking mostly to the first three records,” he said. “And I’m even throwing in a mini-Murderdolls set in the middle of the show.”

If you’ve ever seen Wednesday 13 live, you already know—this is going to be a wild one.

Family Feud?

Before we wrapped up, I had to ask—what does Wednesday 13 do to unwind on the tour bus?

“We watch Family Feud every night,” he said, laughing. “It’s like a whole band ritual. Steve Harvey is basically our unofficial tour manager.”

So there you have it—rock & roll, horror movies, fighting fires, and Family Feud. Just another day in the life of Wednesday 13.

Catch him April 26th at The Machine Shop, and grab Mid-Death Crisis when it drops on April 25th.
