How's this for a marriage made in rock heaven? Detroit legends Sponge grabbed Taproot's Stephen Richards to cover Alice In Chains for their 1994 album, a record of covers from that year, the year Sponge broke on the scene.

Sponge Covers AIC

Vinnie Dombrowski of Sponge said they had a blast remaking the classic song. "Doing that song for the album was absolutely brilliant. We have mad love for AIC music, and personally, they are great human beings."

He told me about a couple of props he used in the video. "Nothing shows love more than a top hat and gorilla hands!" As for Stephan's part in the song and the video "To team up with Stephen put the jam over the top. He is BADASS!"

As for covering the song, Stephen told me he was fired up to be a part of it, but he wanted to be on one song in particular. "It was awesome! Tim (Patalan) told me they were doing a cover album. When I heard 'No Excuses' I claimed dibs on Layne Staley's part." He said they agreed. "It was awesome to do. I loved blending into Vinnie's lows." He added that he loves the video, which you can see below.
