Jesse James Dupree of Jackyl On The Only Hockey Game He’s Seen, The Motown Museum, And Lots More
Jesse and Jackyl are making two stops in Michigan this week. Wednesday night (Thanksgiving Eve) at the world-famous Machine Shop in Flint, then a show at District 142 in Wyandotte, Michigan.
Jesse has traveled the highways of this country for the past 30 + years bringing the rock to the people and there’s no sign of slowing down.
Jesse’s One And Only Hockey Game
One thing I had to bring up with Jesse, was the first, and as it turns out, only hockey game he’s ever attended. Bass player, Roman Glick who is a huge hockey fan, took him to see his first game. “I get my big beer and big ass pretzel, and I’m waiting for it,” Jesse said. “But I forget which team the Red Wings were playing, but some dude fell over dead!” That was the game in which Juri Fischer suffered cardiac arrest and had to be revied. That game took place on November 21, 2005, the last game he would play, and the last game Jesse ever saw. Maybe we can get him to a Flint Firebirds game this week.

Jesse’s Relationship With Travis Tritt
One thing we talked about which I didn’t know, is that he and country star Travis Tritt have known each other for years. He spoke about playing with Travis and his band in the early days at local country bars, as Travis would come to play with Jesse at the rock club in Atlanta, Georgia. Jesse talked about how Travis recently used his studio to record a song for the Reagen movie. He also said the Skid Row guys have used his studio most recently to audition singers.
Jackyl To Rock The Machine Shop and District 142
“We’re always jammin’ on stuff and ideas, but we haven’t been in the studio in a bit,” he said as to whether the band was working on anything. Outside of the band, Jesse works closely with Harley-Davidson. They have their upcoming “rolling” campaigns with different dealers and areas across the country. He told me about the crazy prize someone is going to win: a trip to Rolling Austria. That sounds insane! Jesse explained the whole prize with Eagle Rider.
We also dove into bands and albums he grew up on. The Who is his favorite band and he considers “Quadrophinia” the “best album ever.”greatest album ever made”. He went on to give me other artists that influenced him.
That led us to talk about Detroit’s Hitsville U.S.A., the Motown Museum. He told me a crazy story of going there for the first time as a kid, before the place was even open and being let in by Berry Gordy’s sister.
We wrapped up the conversation with some of the best advice his late father gave him. He said it boiled down to three things: Never wear another man’s leather, never ride another man’s motorcycle, and never sleep with another man’s wife. All solid pieces of advice.
I’ll see you guys at the shows this week!
