In honor of Wayne Gretzky’s 60th birthday on Wednesday (Jan. 26), I put together some of my favorite Gretzky moments!
#5 – Facetiming with Wayne at Kid Rock’s house in March of 2021. Rock bet me he would answer…I lost that bet. It was pretty cool. The only time I’d ever spoken with “The Great One.”
#4 – Steve Black gifting me an autographed Gretzky stick for my 25th anniversary at WRIF. It hangs proudly in my Rock Room.
#3 – Wayne scoring 50 goals in 39 games…
#2 – Gretzky turns over the puck in the neutral zone, Steve Yzerman scores game winning goal over the St Louis Blues. Every Red Wings fan remembers that one. An absolute rocket by #19!
#1 – The last game he played. I taped it on a VCR tape and watched it in my apartment in Farmington Hills. Legend!

At Kid Rock's facetiming with the Great One! #99
Meltdown started on the mighty WRIF on the evening of Halloween, 1995. Technically, his first on-air shift was the morning of November 1st. Moving to the Motor City from Buffalo, N.Y., he has built a career and family. Over his almost three-decade stint at RIFF, he's had the privilege to work with some of the biggest personalities in Detroit radio history. He boasts of being just the second-afternoon drive jock in the station's illustrious 53-year history.
Along with his love for rock music and attending concerts, he's also an avid Harley-Davidson enthusiast and hockey player. He plays year-round and manages to squeeze in a few charity games throughout the year. Meltdown writes about the Detroit Red Wings, rock music, and Detroit concert venues.
