Kraven The Hunter – A Non-Spoiler Review
Kraven The Hunter drops this Friday, but I had the chance to screen it earlier this week. Here’s my non-spoiler review.
The movie follows Sergei Kravinoff, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who becomes one of the most feared hunters in the world, Kraven The Hunter. From poachers to other people with superpowers, he hunts who he thinks deserves justice. As it’s mentioned in the film, once you get on his list, you can’t get off.
Kraven The Hunter
Clocking in at two hours, you get the complete backstory of how Kraven became a fierce hunter and his family dynamics, which play a key role in the film. Russell Crowe plays his, and his brother’s father, Nikolai, a Russian crime lord. Kraven leaves his brother, Dmitri, but returns yearly on his birthday. One year, things take a turn for the worse and Dmitri is taken hostage. His captors know this will bring the hunter out of hiding where he can be killed once and for all. There is a lot of action surrounding Kraven trying to save his brother: like edge-of-your-seat action. See below.
Kraven has a unique relationship with the animal kingdom, which is evident throughout the movie. He also befriends Calypso, who plays an integral part in helping Kraven multiple times.
One of the most interesting characters is Aleksei, also known as “The Rhino”. He appears earlier in the film and becomes a much bigger part in the end. It’s wild how he becomes that character.
Once again, being a Marvel movie I wasn’t sure if I’d like it (I’m not well-versed in the superhero movie world), but I did. It had a few cheesy parts, but overall it was an enjoyable watch with slow parts, big action scenes, and some gruesome deaths. There was one ‘jump scare’ that came out of nowhere that got me, even though this isn’t one of those types of movies.
And, yes, there will be another Kraven The Hunter movie…..I’ll just leave it there.
I’m going to give this movie a 4 out of 5 stars. It’s a fun watch. Easy to follow along with even if you’re like me and don’t recall the backstory from the Spiderman movie. They did a good job explaining the characters and how they each played into the story.
