Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire is the latest installment of Legendary Studios Godzilla films. The movie has already grossed over $ 521 million worldwide. As someone who has watched the movie, I can say it is incredible. You could even say it has a unique feeling to the movie as a viewer. There hasn’t been a film like it in the franchise. It may even be one of the best to date. As a self-taught movie buff and heavy entertainment critic, I pride myself on movies.

Movie Critics Miss The Mark

I have learned that we live in a world where movie critics on review sites are sometimes bought and paid for. The actual critics who are paid to write reviews for movies are often so far off the public’s view that it can be hilarious at times. “Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire” is a prime example. Audiences everywhere loved the film. The movie has grossed nearly 400 million dollars in less than a month for a reason.

This movie gave every Legendary Godzilla fan precisely what they longed for in a movie: epic, action-packed, and visually spectacular monster fights in the Kaiju Godzilla universe. If you don’t believe me, check out a site like Rotten Tomatoes, where critics give it a score under 60% while fans love it and hold a score over 90% for the film. This is clear evidence that the movie critics got this one wrong.

The Latest Godzilla Movie is a Must-Watch

If you’re a fan of Godzilla, then you absolutely must watch this newest installment! It even has a compelling enough human story that makes you feel emotional. Not every one of these movies has great success in that field, but I will give the latest film a little credit for improving their human character development from the previous movies.

Now that we’ve concluded this is a great movie, and all franchise fans should see it, let’s break down the five greatest Godzilla films ever to grace the big screen! Going back to 1954, Godzilla has been one of history’s longest-spanning and most followed movie franchises. Scroll down to uncover the best of the best movies in the G-man franchise.

  • Godzilla Vs Destroyah (1995)

100% a must watch for fans of the Godzilla universe. No spoilers here but just know that Godzilla faces one of the most powerful foes in any of the films in this one. Destroyah is a combination of a laundry list of defeated foes that Godzilla has faced. Individually no sweat for the G man, but all in one opponent is an entirely different story…

  • Shin Godzilla (2016)

One of the most uniquely powerful versions of Godzilla and arguably the most bizarre. Shin Godzilla is a breed of Godzilla that is capable of constantly evolving to survive any and all threats. While not fast or agile, given enough time this form of Godzilla is simply too genetically complex to kill. A weird but good watch.

  • Godzilla King of the Monsters (2019)

While this film does not have one of the most impactful human storylines by any means, it is an amazingly good watch for any Godzilla fan.  The biggest and baddest monster fights are contained within this movie. As King Ghidorah looks to take over the Earth and Godzilla is the only being strong enough to stand in its way.

  • Godzilla (1954)

The original film is one of the greatest in the entire franchise. Something the Legendary Godzilla films do not follow is the true Japanese origin of the monster himself. Godzilla is a terror and a symbol of the wrath and destruction that followed the end of World War II and dropping of the atomic bomb on Japan. This film captures the sheer horror and devastation that swept the nation at that time. Nobody will tell you this film is visually spectacular; however, it is emotionally impactful.

  • Godzilla Minus One (2023)

A return to the origin story version of Godzilla. This movie is perhaps the best Godzilla film ever created. Following a Japanese Kamikaze pilot during the final days of World War II, he fakes a mechanical problem with his plane and lands for mechanics to “fix the issues’ ‘. While staying inland overnight, the pilot and the mechanic crew are attacked by a seemingly prehistoric monster. Dozens of men were slaughtered and the pilot feels responsible. It’s a movie that follows guilt, dishonor, extreme PTSD and the feeling of worthlessness in a world of utter devastation. This is almost more of a horror movie, and it is spectacular.
