Guitar Legend Joe Bonamassa Compares Detroit’s Fox Theater To Some Of The Most Beautiful In The World
Joe Bonamassa will be playing at the Fox Theater coming up on November 18th. He’s no stranger to the famed theater. “It’s a gem in the world! I mean, I play my fair share of really nice theaters, and I always say – and not just because I’m on the radio in Detroit – that the Fox Theater is the nicest theater in the country.” Joe went on to talk about the attention to detail the Fox has. “The craftsmanship to restore it to its original glory..I mean, it’s overwhelming.”
He said it rivals other legendary concert halls. “To me, it’s right up there with the Albert Hall in London, the Vienna Opera House, Carnegie Hall, and stuff like that.” He said he was happy it was saved from the wrecking ball. “The city of Detroit benefits greatly from having a cultural site like that, that’s preserved, and active, and, Hell, you can even see where Elvis played!”
For those who don’t know, the walls leading to the stage have autographs from some of the most famous people who have ever walked the planet. I recall seeing signatures from Bill Clinton, Frank Sinatra, and others behind the plexiglass when I was there once. Just amazing!
Joe knows something about great venues. His last live album was recorded at the famous Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado. He talks about that record, his latest Blues Deluxe: Vol. 2, another live album he’ll be dropping next year, and a great story about Jeff Beck. You’ll be able to see and hear the conversation on the next episode of my Talkin’ Rock podcast next week.
