It was on this date in 1991 that Metallica changed the game and released the first single of their upcoming “Black” album, Enter Sandman. I’ll never forget hosting a listening party for that record. You could not jam another person into that bar! After every song the fans cheered.
The summer of 1991 also found us in the theaters watching Terminator 2: Judgement Day!
Another big movie that came out in 1991 was “Silence of the Lambs!”
Serial killer Jeffery Dahmer was arrested. Who could forget that creep!
“Iron” Mike Tyson is charged with rape.
This wasn’t the summer, but the big news of 1991 was the Gulf War. In January of 1991, Iraq refused to leave Kuwait, and a U.S.-led air attack started in what was known as Operation Desert Storm. On Feb. 26, on Baghdad radio, Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein announced the withdrawal of Iraqi troops from Kuwait. God bless our troops.

Meltdown started on the mighty WRIF on the evening of Halloween, 1995. Technically, his first on-air shift was the morning of November 1st. Moving to the Motor City from Buffalo, N.Y., he has built a career and family. Over his almost three-decade stint at RIFF, he's had the privilege to work with some of the biggest personalities in Detroit radio history. He boasts of being just the second-afternoon drive jock in the station's illustrious 53-year history.
Along with his love for rock music and attending concerts, he's also an avid Harley-Davidson enthusiast and hockey player. He plays year-round and manages to squeeze in a few charity games throughout the year. Meltdown writes about the Detroit Red Wings, rock music, and Detroit concert venues.
