Joe Elliott of Def Leppard Talks About Famed ‘Joe Dirt’ Scene
On the latest Talkin’ Rock podcast episode, rock ‘n’ roll hall of famer Joe Elliott joined me. I had to ask him about the famous scene in the movie Joe Dirt when Kid Rock’s character yelled out “Def Leppard Sucks!” Joe said he had a quick word with David Spade and that he was a little perturbed saying, “I heard what you said, you know.”
Even though Detroit native Kid Rock actually said those now-famous words, he told me about a time when the both of them sang together at Justin Timberlake’s birthday in the early-2000s. “It was awesome!”
He talked about going down to a bar in Los Angeles with Rock, Justin and Chris Rock. “Me and Kid got up on stage to do ‘Pour Some Sugar On Me,’ but totally unrehearsed, and he goes into this whole rap section in the middle. And then he came out of it, and I came straight back in on the bridge, and it was like we’d rehearsed it for two weeks. It was the most astonishing thing, off-the-cuff, that I’ve ever been involved in when it comes to off-the-cuff things.”
