Albums Recommendations:
Alrighty folks, the first album that I’ll be putting you onto here is Manning Fireworks by MJ Lenderman. This one here was a happy discovery on Bandcamp, and boy oh boy what a great discovery it was. It’s a fantastic little alt-country album, full of fantastic playing from the band and a witty and disaffected vocal delivery by the front man. To me at least, someone who hasn’t got the deepest knowledge of this genre, it sounds like a fantastic blend of Neil Young, Wilco, and a disaffected zoomer crooner. If that sounds interesting to you, check it out here.
Up next is this absolutely phenomenal album by Nala Sinephro called Endlessness. I’ve been giving this one quite a few spins lately because I think it’s just perfect for this weather. The album is so very cozy and mellow and also full of life. It’s a fantastic mix of acoustic jazz elements (like drums and piano) blended with quaint electronic synths (a la Mort Garson). And as much as I talk about it and give it praise, it really won’t do the album justice, you’ve just got to listen to it! Also, the album art is the most perfect encapsulation of the music that I have seen in a very long time. Give it a listen here.
Finally, I want to implore you folks to listen to Wall of Eyes by The Smile. (Also Cutouts when you’ve got the time.) Thom Yorke and Johnny Greenwood of Radiohead formed this band a couple years ago and man is it so good. Thankfully the music they are creating here isn’t just more Radiohead music (I saw that as a huge fan of theirs) and instead takes on a more hypnotic quality. There’s more bizarre grooves to be found here and seemingly more of a reliance on looping and creating psychedelic atmospheres, which sound fantastic. You should listen to it and then listen to the other album they put out this year. Check them out here.
That’s all that I’ve got for now gang, it’s time for me to brave the elements and find more new music for you! I’ll see you next Monday!
