Joe Hendry Talks TNA’s Bound for Glory, John Cena, Music, and Detroit
As wrestling fans get excited for TNA Wrestling’s Bound for Glory in Detroit, TNA wrestler Joe Hendry stopped by The RIFF to chat with Meltdown about his upcoming title match, music, and a potential dream showdown with John Cena.
Joe Hendry “Say His Name and He Appears”
True to form, Hendry’s catchphrase, “Say his name and he appears,” did not disappoint, appearing in Detroit just days ahead of the highly anticipated Bound for Glory event.
Hendry called the event “huge” for himself and TNA Wrestling. This is his first shot at the world championship, and it’s already the highest-grossing U.S. event for TNA this year. Hendry said, “It’s been an incredible year for me and for TNA wrestling, We’re on a hot streak right now – long may it continue.”
Hendry continued, saying this weekend could be a massive moment in his journey. He added that if he wins the TNA World Championship, he’d love to see WWE legend John Cena cross over to TNA. “If I win the TNA World Championship, I think it would just be quite rude if I didn’t invite John Cena to cross the line into TNA Wrestling,” Hendry joked.
He believes anything is possible with the growing collaboration between TNA and WWE, just like when he got a match with Kurt Angle earlier in his career.
Wrestler Joe Hendry On Music
Hendry being a music buff, talked about his love for the city’s legacy, hoping to come back and visit Motown Records.
His favorite band is Weezer. Hendry talked about growing up loving Weezer, especially the “simple but effective” songwriting. Other bands he loves include Metallica, Nine Inch Nails, Queens of the Stone Age, and even some pop artists like Justin Timberlake and Eminem. Hendry credits Eminem’s influence on his comedy videos, praising the rapper’s genius-level intellect.
Though this isn’t his first trip to Detroit, Hendry mentioned that wrestlers usually don’t have time to explore. This time, he joked about having five days to convince Eminem to be in his corner for the big match.
We wrapped up discussing Detroit-style pizza. Hendry is eager to try it, especially the pepperoni and mushroom combo that I recommended at Buddy’s, which he hopes to enjoy as a post-event celebration.
Don’t miss Joe Hendry in action at Bound for Glory this Saturday at Wayne State University’s Fieldhouse. He’s got a world title shot, and as Hendry puts it, “Let’s make some professional wrestling history this weekend.”
Be sure to catch the action, and if you can’t make it to Bound for Glory, don’t forget there are still tickets available for the TV taping on October 27th, where “a lot of the chaos kicks off the day after the pay-per-view.”
