An Evening At Canterbury Village’s Harry Potter Dinner
I love Harry Potter. One of my saddest memories is not receiving an invitation to Hogwarts when I turned 11 years old. It was heartbreaking. However, this makes up for it. Check out our evening at Canterbury Village’s Harry Potter Dinner!
Canterbury Village hosts tons of fun events throughout the year. However, none of interested me as much as their Harry Potter Dinner. Good news! It lived up to expectations!
An Evening At Canterbury Village’s Harry Potter Dinner
A few months ago, I remember seeing an event posting on my Facebook Timeline. It was for a Harry Potter Dinner at Canterbury Village! Now, I’m from Clarkston so I’m familiar with Canterbury Village. It’s a beautiful place and it’s a one of a kind location. I knew they had a castle thing on site, so this was the perfect place to host a Harry Potter dinner. Turns out, it was!
I have never gone to a themed dinner like this before. However, I have heard of them. There have been similar events for the Medieval Ages and such. It always seems fun, but I’ve never pulled the trigger, until now.
I’m a massive Harry Potter fan. I love the movies, the books, the spin-offs, all of the Harry Potter content. So, when I heard there was going to be a Harry Potter themed dinner, I knew I had to be there.
Although, I’ve never participated in a themed event before. Honestly, I don’t even remember the last time I dressed up for Halloween! I’m just busy and forget. This time, I wasn’t going to let the opportunity slide. We were going to go and we were going to dress up.
I’ve always wanted a Hogwarts robe. They look so cool. I think it would be awesome to wear one anytime I watch the Harry Potter movies. So, my girlfriend and I each took the Sorting Hat Quiz via Pottermore. In the end, I was placed in Ravenclaw and she was placed in Slytherin.
So, we went online and bought our Houses robes to be delivered so we can wear those robes to the dinner. We also bought wands and went all out for this. A few days later, her Slytherin robes arrived. Days went by and still no Ravenclaw robes. Amazon said it was coming, then took it back. The next day? Same thing. Expected to be delivered, and then nothing.
So, the day of the event comes and I still have no robes! Time to panic! Not so fast! We came up with a Plan B. Since I already have a slight resemblance to Hagrid, we decided to head in that direction for our back up. We found a wig and that’s all I needed! I have plenty of clothes around the house that he would wear. I’m also a chubby guy with a beard, so all set there.
Eventually, it was time to go to the event. However, my robes still hadn’t arrived! So, I went as Hagrid. Turns out, that was the right call. It was an excellent costume. Check out our look from a picture shared on my Twitter below!

Harry Potter Dinner At Canterbury Village
When we arrived, we were a bit surprised. See, I had expected everyone to go all out for this dinner. I expected to see all sorts of costumes and crazy attire. Well, I was wrong. Right when we stepped in, we didn’t see anyone in costume! We were the only ones dressed up!
However, we eventually saw more people did indeed dress up. It was just a scare at first seeing nobody in costume. There was just nobody where we were looking. Upon exploring the grounds, we found several people, adults and kids alike, in their House robes. There were Hufflepuff students, Gryffindors, Slytherins, and maybe a Ravenclaw? I think there was one. I was surprised to see Hufflepuff seemed to be the most popular house!
The event was so cool. There were actors who played out some scenes in front of us. We all had to come together with a plan to fight Lord Voldemort! It was a blast. The kids definitely enjoyed it.
I had come into it expecting it to be a thing for adults. Well, I think I was wrong. It was a family thing. However, adults and singles could still enjoy it! There was Butterbeer (alcoholic and non-alcoholic), a buffet of food, and tasty desserts.
The Butterbeer was one of my favorite parts of the entire experience. Watching the movies and reading the books, I always wanted to try it. Well, I can report it was even better than expected! So delicious and refreshing. It wasn’t overly sweet like I had expected, either. I’m going to have to find a recipe online to make them at home sometime.
I’d love to start attending more themed parties! Game Of Thrones would be a fun one. As would Lord Of The Rings or James Bond. Or, we could do Harry Potter again. I already have the costume! Or, I should have two…if that Ravenclaw robe ever arrives. We look forward to doing it again! Check out the photo I shared on my Instagram below!
