Michigan fans deserve better. The Michigan Wolverines dropped a second game early in the 2024 College Football season after a deceivingly pathetic 27-17 loss to Will Rogers and the Washington Huskies. With only a little over a month of games to kick off the season, the Michigan Wolverines are in a different position than last year. Two early losses to Washington and Texas are truly troubling to Michigan fans, and they should be concerned.

The Texas game was much more devastating than this weekend's Washington game. The Longhorns throttled our beloved Wolverines in their own home. This one hurt, as Michigan was outmatched and did not stand a chance in the game. This felt exceptionally strange, as Michigan hadn’t had any games like this in maybe 4-5 seasons. The Wolverines have been the definition of pure dominance the last several years, especially in the regular season. Michigan fans deserve better.

Michigan and Big Ten Superiority

Now it seems that the school's reign of fury in the Big Ten has worn out, at least for now. Even if the team wins, they do not look adequate. The defense has several vital spots and is not the root issue of these performances. This team is failing because of their inability to muster up an effective passing game. Their running game is weaker than last year, and their passing game is non-existent. This has made it extremely difficult for the team to play dominant football. Michigan fans are indeed picking up on this.

The biggest problem is that when the team goes down, the lack of a decent quarterback makes a timely comeback nearly impossible. This team appears to be set up for failure. While 4-2 is nowhere near the worst record in college football, this is not Michigan Football. After winning the national championship last season, this team suffered a massive hit to the program.

Causes For Concern For Michigan Fans

Losing so many top players and coaches, including Head Coach John Harbaugh, to the NFL has made a huge impact. The media made it seem like Michigan could stay competitive, but this team cannot compete with the top 25 opponents, which will prevent them from doing anything significant this season.

Many lifelong Michigan fans hope this team turns it all around. As a fan, I hope I’m proven wrong and the team suddenly develops a killer passing game that completely reignites the offense. I don’t see that happening, but that’s the only thing that could save the Wolverines' season. Without any ability to move the ball downfield through the air, I would not expect any big wins for the 2024 season.
