Detroit’s Historic Train Station Draws 3,000 People for Holiday Market Opening
The grand halls of Michigan Central Station came alive as 3,000 visitors walked through its doors on opening weekend, station spokesperson Dan Austin confirmed. Inside the stunning 1913 building, two dozen vendors now sell their goods in Detroit’s lively Corktown neighborhood. The market is open to shoppers until December 28, running Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Customers who can’t make it in person can shop through the station’s online marketplace.
After a massive six-year renovation, the building combines permanent shops with pop-up vendors. Visitors browse tables with handmade decorations, kids’ clothes, and eye-catching jewelry. Beautiful glass ornaments made in Poland are displayed alongside Detroit’s Shinola watches and Carhartt clothing.
Market curator Roslyn Karamoko, known for creating the popular “Detroit is the New Black” brand, chose sellers that capture the city’s creative energy.
Since reopening this summer, this beautiful Beaux-Arts landmark has become a local hotspot. The station comes alive with music every Friday night for ticket holders. The winter market brings new life to a building that’s found its place again in Detroit’s community.
