Golfer Scottie Scheffler Joins Elite Company After Incredible 2024
Scottie Scheffler has had a career year. Not just for himself but for any professional golfer. He has joined some elite company after his incredible 2024.
If you bet on Scottie Scheffler during events this year, you probably made some good money. He seemingly won everything he competed in. He won a Green Jacket at The Masters, placed 1st at the RBC Heritage, won the Memorial Tournament present by Workday, the Travelers Championship, the TOUR Championship, the FedEx Cup title, and even a Gold Medal at the Paris Olympics. Not a bad year!
How Good Is Scottie Scheffler?
We are witnessing one of the best to ever do it on the golf course. If you’re wondering who’s going to be the next Tiger Woods–it’s Scottie. I know, I know. People have said this many times before with Justin Spieth, Dustin Johnson, and even Bubba Watson had a nice run there. However, they ended up falling short of expectations despite many wins and titles. I don’t think we’ll see the same out of Scottie Scheffler–he’s legit.
The FedEx Cup title secured Scheffler a cool $25 million bonus to cap off his incredible year. It was truly one for the books. According to USA Today, Scottie’s earnings in 2024 added up to $64.4 million after winning the Tour Championship. Add in his FedEx Cup winnings and his career total now sits at nearly $97 million giving him the second highest career earnings in golf–behind only Tiger Woods.
Joe Pompliano points out on X (formerly Twitter) that Scheffler’s earnings in 2024 alone would put him at 9th place on the all-time money list. That’s a crazy stat that highlights what a spectacular year it was for him. While the highs will stand out, there were some bumps along the road. Scottie was arrested before Round 2 of the PGA Championship in Louisville, Kentucky after trying to drive into the course but the charges were dropped as it was a misunderstanding. However, at the time it was all over the news and certainly had to have been a distraction as he had to spend a brief stint in a jail cell and had his mugshot taken. However, he went on to have a solid round and didn’t let the moment ruin his year. He bounced back and had one of the best years a golfer has had!
Scheffler placed 1st in the FedEx Cup, Collin Morikawa placed 2nd, and Sahith Theegala came in 3rd. He has to continue this success to match Tiger, but he’s definitely now firmly entered the conversation.
How Much Masters Prize Money Every Golfer Made in 2024
Scottie Scheffler is walking away from the Masters with the biggest winners’ check ever, but how much Masters prize money did everyone make in the tournament this year?
Scheffler’s 11-under four-shot win over Ludvig Aberg gives him $3.6 million of the $20 million prize pool this time around.
Last year, Jon Rahm earned $360,000 less than this year’s winner, as golf starts to contend with the massive prize (and pay) pools in LIV Golf.
Top Masters Prize Money Winners
Both of the top golfers had huge paydays this year. Aberg will take home more than the winners from 2015 and 2016, for example.
Before the 2024 Masters even started, something about “Scottie Scheffler Masters Champion” just felt right.
He’s been the best golfer in the world for a while now, and even though Rahm won it last year, you could make a reasonable case that the 2022 winner Scheffler felt more inevitable.
And so it was all about Scottie Scheffler. The most consistent golfer in the world right now did just that over four rounds at Augusta National.
And that led to a flip of last year’s Butler Cabin Green Jacket ceremony. Last year Scheffler put it on Rahm. This year Rahm had to put it on Scottie.
Now he can safely get home to his pregnant wife, with a second Green Jacket to wrap his new baby in when they get here.
