WRIF Jocks Name Their Top Bucket List Bands
What’s the band that got away? You know, that one band you always wanted to see in concert that you could never see live. If you’re like most people, you probably have a few. Well, the WRIF jocks have their favorite bucket list bands, and we’re sharing them with you.
Let’s start with Jade. She’s never seen Pearl Jam in concert and would love to someday. Jonel Jaksa also would like to see Eddie Vedder and the crew. “Back in the heyday of grunge, I saw practically everyone when they came through town,” he says. “I saw Nirvana, Soundgarden multiple times, Alice in Chains and Screaming Trees. But I have never caught Pearl Jam in concert. They’d be at the top of my list. They haven’t been to Detroit since 2014. They have a new album in April and a subsequent world tour scheduled, but there’s no Motor City tour date.”
Meltdown says he’s seen almost every band that he’s wanted to, but the guys he would have loved to see live are Prince and David Bowie. “I never got to see them live, but I’ve been fortunate enough to see most of the bands I’ve wanted to,” he says. Aimee says, “The Rolling Stones. I mean, it’s the Rolling Stones. I wish I would have seen them with Charlie behind the kit.” I’m with Aimee. Some of my bucket list bands are The Rolling Stones, Dio, and Nirvana back in the day.
For Chuck, “My top bucket list band I have not seen is Pearl Jam. I can’t explain why, but I’ve just gone my whole life and have never seen them live. I’ve always been a big fan I just never made it happen. Obviously there aren’t too many of the bands that I loved in high school that are still around. I’d really love to see Pearl Jam to at least say I saw them. ” For Cort Freeman, it’s Phoenix. “I want to see Phoenix live,” he says. I had the chance to see them front row at Bonnaroo back in 2012, but I left because I was exhausted after staying there all day to ensure I had a front row for Ween. It’s a major regret that I still think about just about every day. I love their French disco sound; their catalog is so deep!”
Steve Black has a few. “Tons that don’t tour anymore like Zeppelin and Queen with Freddie, but the one that stands out the most for me is Rage Against the Machine,” he says. “I was among the first to play them on the radio in the U.S. and have been a fan since then. Yet, I always had an excuse when they came to town, thinking I would ‘catch them next time.’ Then, finally, they reunited, and I paid way too much for tickets. Then COVID, a postponement, a health issue, a postponement, some other excuse, and the show was canceled. I still think I’ll get to see them someday, but they (and me) will all be in our 60s and less capable of raging. Also, I must see Muse at some point.”
