The Detroit Lions are arguably coming off their best season in over 30 years. They finished the regular season with a record of 12-5 and won their first-ever NFC North Division title. In the end, Detroit finished one half of football short of clinching their first-ever Super Bowl Berth. The entire city of Detroit is now wondering, is this year their year to do it? Are the Lions ready for the Super Bowl in 2025?

Everyone is expecting more after one of the most magical seasons in franchise history for our Detroit Lions. Overall, things are looking good. The ingredients seem to be in place for another deep Lions playoff run. Lions Quarterback Jared Goff is coming off one of their best statistical seasons as a professional, finishing with over 4500 passing yards and 30 Passing Touchdowns with a completion percentage of over 67 percent. Goff proved he is our guy and can lead this team through the playoffs.

Homegrown Stars

The Lions saw many players rise above and become stars last year. Jahmyr Gibbs proved to be well on his way to star status and, at minimum, is the perfect pairing to fellow running back David Montgomery in the backfield. Another Offensive star emerged last year at the Tight End position in Sam Laporta. Sam Laporta exploded onto the NFL scene, after one season he finished in the top 5 in yards, receptions and touchdowns amongst all tight ends! Finishing with ten touchdowns, 889 receiving yards, and 86 receptions. As bold as it may sound, I believe Sam Laporta is already a top 5 tight end in the National Football League and will only get better.

A few Defensive stars emerged last year for Detroit as well. Lions Safety Brian Branch proved to be an impact player and had an immediate impact after being drafted last season. While he’s been with the team for a few years, Lions Defensive Tackle Alim Mcneill made significant improvements and proved to be a fearsome interior player. But what does all of this mean for the Lions and their Super Bowl chances?

Lions Should Make Super Bowl

With the excellent play from Lions Edge Rusher Aidan Hutchinson and contributions from Alim Mcneill on top of free-agent moves, Brad Holmes has patched quite a few holes in the defense.  After signing another pass rusher in Marcus Davenport, Defensive Tackle DJ Reader, and Corners Carlton Davis and Amik Robertson, the Lions are poised for great things. If this seemingly fearsome defensive line remains healthy, this team will play in the Super Bowl in 2025. Don't forget that Detroit is hosting the NFL Draft this year at the end of April!

The NFL Draft will be great for Lions General Manager Brad Holmes to work his magic again. The Lions should look to add some additional critical players to this already good roster. These players could go a long way to improving their chances of making their first Super Bowl in franchise history. Brad Holmes would love it if he could add some more depth to the secondary, pass rusher, or even give Jared Goff yet another offensive weapon to play with.

The safest and probably the most likely first-round draft pick would be to add depth to the offensive line by selecting another Tackle or Guard, preferably a plug-and-play offensive lineman. If they could add another player like Graham Glasgow, who could play any spot on the line on any given day, it could be a huge help to bolster the trenches further.

Ultimately, Brad Holmes has proven himself a great General Manager in the draft. Players like Brian Branch, Jahmyr Gibbs, Sam Laporta, Aidan Hutchingson, Penei Sewell, and Amon-Ra St. Brown have all proven to be valuable players drafted by Brad! At the end of the day, Holmes has proved that we can trust him to handle a draft. The NFL draft kicks off at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 27th! Please find out more about it here!

Detroit Lions Super Bowl Odds 2024

The Detroit Lions are NFC North champions and in the playoffs. Next stop: Las Vegas. Okay, maybe I'm getting ahead of myself. But, there's a real possibility the Lions could go all the way this year. Who wouldn't want to lose to the Ravens on the big stage? Just joking, but let's admit that the Baltimore Ravens are likely heading to the Super Bowl and seem very hard to beat right now. So, what are the Detroit Lions Super Bowl odds going into the postseason?

Some key things have to fall into place to make the Lions Super Bowl bound. Of course, the main thing is that we have to overcome our opponents in the playoffs. Throughout this season of my podcast, "The Squad with Anne Erickson," we've talked about the best and worst matchups for the Lions. Several guests have commented on both the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers being potentially very difficult teams for the Lions to beat, based on each teams' strengths and weaknesses. I would throw the Seattle Seahawks into that mix, too, since the Lions haven't been able to overcome them in the Dan Campbell era.

Now, I do think the Lions could beat the Eagles. This isn't the same team it was at the beginning of the season. All due respect to my Eagles friends, but there are holes in the team right now, and I believe that in the right situation, the Lions could beat them. Also, they have Matt Patricia heading up their defense, which is great for any team going up against them. Spoken like a true Lions fan, right? That said, I believe a Detroit Lions Super Bowl run would depend on the 49ers getting taken out in an early upset game. I think it would be difficult for the Lions to overcome the 49ers but not impossible. Now, let's get into the real numbers.

Detroit Lions Super Bowl odds:

Backstory

The Detroit Lions are having one of the best years in the history of the franchise. They have the division title and will likely be the No. 3 seed going into the wildcard round, meaning they'll host that first game. The Lions are hoping to win a playoff game for the first time since 1991.

Detroit Lions Super Bowl Odds - Percentage

The Detroit Lions currently have the eighth-ranked odds in the league to win the Super Bowl at +2200. That's around a 5% chance. Their odds of making the playoffs are -10000. Not bad, but I think we deserve a bit higher.

What People Are Saying

Lineups.com says last weekend's Cowboys game, albeit frustrating, shows that the Lions could make it to the Super Bowl. "The Lions performance against the Dallas Cowboys last Saturday on primetime was eye opening for all the right reasons," they state.

They add, "Even in a loss, that type of performance was much needed to give Lions backers assurance that they can compete with them in a potential rematch in the playoffs."

Who should the Lions want to play in the playoffs?

NFL writer Arif Hasan joins me on “The Squad with Anne Erickson” this week to talk about all things NFL, including who the Lions should want to go up against in the playoffs. Listen to the full discussion below. Subscribe to “The Squad with Anne Erickson” wherever you listen to podcasts, and hit me up here.

Next challenge

Jared Goff and company's next challenge is the Lions vs. Vikings game this Sunday (Jan. 7) at 1 p.m. EST. This game isn't super important to the Lions, as they'll probably end up a No. 3 seed regardless. What will be interesting is to see who clinches the No. 6 seed and goes up against the Lions in the wildcard round.
