The Detroit Lions officially clinched the division on Christmas eve. Winning the NFC North for the first time ever after defeating the Minnesota Vikings 30-24. The Lions moved to 11-4 on the season which ties them for the second-best record in the league. One could argue that Detroit has a case for the best team in the NFL.
This weekend the Lions brought home their first NFC North title. Jared Goff had a nice game, picking apart the Vikings defense with 30 completions on 40 attempts. The Lions Quarterback also had a touchdown along with 257 passing yards. The offensive line paved the way for 143 team rushing yards. Jahmyr Gibbs ran for 80 yards and 2 scores while David Montgomery had 55 yards and 1 touchdown. A very typical day at the office for Amon-Ra St Brown who chipped in with 106 yards on 12 catches and a score. Defensively the team got a ton of stops.

The Defense
The Lions defense played a pivotal role in the game on Sunday. With 4 interceptions, 4 sacks and 1 forced fumble, the defense was a key part of the win. While Detroit gave up 390 total yards, over 370 of which were passing yards. While those numbers are high, the defense completely obliterated any chances of a Vikings running game. Holding Minnesota under 20 yards rushing for the game, they were completely one dimensional which forced many predictable turnovers. If the defense can continue to get big time stops like this, this team can be the best team in the NFL.
The Best Team in The NFL?
While Detroit may not be the best team in the NFL right now. They aren’t far off, and they have the potential to become the best team. Why I think Detroit can be the best team is due to a couple of reasons. The defense has always been a concern for fans and experts alike. While the team may give up yards, they need to thrive on the “bend don’t break” approach. If this team can continue to get timely stops, they absolutely can be one of the best teams in the league if not the best. This is the key to them having a shot at a Super Bowl.

Another reason this squad can be the best team, is that they have fully bought in to Head Coach Dan Campbell’s message of grit and hard-nosed football. This organization’s fan base is finally fully behind their head coach and general manager at the same time as ownership. Everything is clicking at the right time and the Detroit Lions’ window to winning a Super Bowl is wide open. Detroit looks to further solidify their record for the playoffs this Saturday, travelling to Dallas for a matchup with Dak Prescott and the Cowboys on December 30th.
Casting Popular Actors For The Detroit Lions Movie
One day, a movie will be made on the Detroit Lions. It’ll be a story of a team overcoming the odds. Going from the bottom all the way to the top. When that day finally comes, these are the actors I would cast in the Detroit Lions movie.
Of course, casting a biopic is never easy. Sure, Austin Butler made a great Elvis. Yes, Rami Malek was a terrific Freddie Mercury. However, for ever success story there’s a miscasting. For every Austin Butler as Elvis, there’s a Lindsay Lohan as Elizabeth Taylor. Likewise, for every Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury, there’s a John Wayne as Genghis Khan. Yeah, that actually happened.
Very rarely will a movie get the casting 100% correct. As you can tell, I’m padding myself for the ridicule that’s certain to come for my casting of the imaginary Detroit Lions movie. Most of the time, there is some sort of mix of solid casting choices and questionable calls. I get it. Often, you have to embellish or find a spot to insert some humor where you wouldn’t normally find that.
Casting a sport movie, especially football, is even more difficult because it calls for a very specific type of actor. The audience needs to believe that this person could actually be a football player. Having Christopher Mintz-Plasse play a quarterback is a way to get some laughs, sure, but c’mon. I don’t see anybody believing he’s an NFL quarterback. At the same time, you can’t have the entire cast be huge WWE stars like Dave Bautista or The Rock. You need actors who can…for lack of a better term: act. You can see, there’s a delicate balance at play.
When casting a movie, you’ve also got to keep the budget in mind. I can’t cast all A-list actors for this movie. The studio can’t afford it, and I’d never be invited back to cast a movie again. We can’t have that! So, keep that in mind as you go through the list of my casting. I’d love to find roles for Leo, Clooney, Downey Jr., and Crowe in this movie. I’m sure they’d be perfect. However, I lack the budget. Thus, I’m left with this casting. Let’s get to the list. Roll credits!
