Lions Looking To Bounce Back After Bad Loss

The Lions did not look sharp on Sunday against the Chicago Bears. In Detroit’s second bad loss of the season, they were held under 200 Passing Yards for the game. With 3 Turnovers and the offensive line surrendering 4 sacks. The Lions were dealt yet another bad loss. We have been very supportive in their wins, so now we must be critical in their losses.
After falling to the Bears 28-13 Sunday, it’s time to be critical. Losing in such a way, with such poor offense. This was in fact a bad loss for the team. The Lions hadn’t loss this badly, since the Ravens 38-6 thrashing of Detroit in October. Despite the win Detroit has a 9-4 record. Detroit still sits at the top of the NFC North division with a 9-4 record. But some concerns are warranted after a bad loss like this. With poor offensive execution and turnovers Jared Goff played about as bad as possible.

A Bad Loss For Detroit
Goff threw 2 interceptions with only 1 touchdown and under 170 passing yards for the day. Amon-Ra St. Brown dropped passes, Goff made silly mistakes and the offensive line got man handled. Even Sam Laporta was silent in the bad loss. Everything that could go wrong with the offense, went wrong.
All the being said, the offensive wasn’t the only problem. While the Lions offense gave up the ball 3 times and put their defense in a tough spot. The defense still needs to improve.
Poor Defense Partially To Blame
The Lions defense got exposed again against the Bears. Their secondary was not equipped to deal with the Bears wide receiving group. While they didn’t get dominated much more than usual yardage wise. The team only forced 3 punts all game. This is unacceptable and lead to a bad loss like this one.
The Lions look to bounce back and improve their record to 10-4 on the season. This Saturday, December 16th, the Lions take on the red-hot Denver Broncos at 8:15 at Ford Field. The Lions need a great game from their defense to reestablish themselves as a good football team.
Are the Detroit Lions Overrated?
No, no, no. I will not accept the idea that the Detroit Lions are overrated. However, there’s a lot of negative buzz out there – both in Michigan and across the country – after the team’s past two shaky games. Many are saying that the team is overrated. As a lifelong Lions fan who now reports on the team, it’s like a dagger to my heart hearing these bad things about the Lions.
This team has worked hard to get to an 8-3 record. This team has come through in situations that nobody thought they could conquer. So, when asked the question, “Are the Detroit Lions overrated?” My answer is, “No.” But, what do others think?
What does losing to Green Bay mean to the Detroit Lions?
Jeremy Reisman of Pride of Detroit joins Anne Erickson on “The Squad” on the WRIF this week. They have lots to talk about with the past two Detroit Lions games. What does this significant loss against the Green Bay Packers mean to the Lions? Are the Packers going to surprise everyone in the NFL and make it to the playoffs? What about Super Bowl predictions? Also, what does the future look like for Kirk Cousins and the Minnesota Vikings? I’m looking forward to watching the Vikings on Monday Night Football (Nov. 27) but, as as Spartan, I miss Cousins.
On the show, I brought up the fake punk attempt in the Green Bay game, which I felt was the wrong call. Reisman agreed but also said he’s a big fan of Dan Campbell’s aggressive calls. “I’m such a big fan of aggressive head coaching when it comes to fourth downs, so when it comes to something like this, you’ve got to take the good with the band,” Reisman said. “You take some of the over-aggression with the fact that he’s (Cambell) going to go for it more than often in what I think are appropriate situations. I’m with you. I don’t think that it was probably the appropriate situation, but you take the good with the bad with Dan Campbell. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out that time, and yeah, the Packers scored three plays later, and suddenly it’s back to a two-score game.” Reach out to Anne here.
