Augie’s Bar Says Goodbye After 20-Plus Years – Screamin’ Scott
According to Social Media reports via Facebook, the legendary Augie’s Bar in Madison Heights after 20 years is shutting off the lights. This post took me completely off guard, as it was a great local place for local bands to play for so many, many years. I lucky enough to check it off my bucket list, as my band Chit played many shows there. It was also a huge stop for WRIF as a bar night. It was called the Riff World Bar Tour, back when we would do bar nights five nights a week in the good old days. Some folks even met their future ex-wife at Augie’s. And it’s the only bar I know that had a pay phone in the restroom.
So many bands played there, including Sly boy, Rockstar, Planet of Fun, Work in Progress, Blender, The Look, The Dream, Room 13, Last Exit, many more…and the almighty Chit. Thanks to the memories from a fantastic staff and a trio of good people that include Scott, Steve and Tina. <3
