Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune will now be filming without a live crowd as a precaution to the spread of coronavirus.

Per TMZ, the decision to film both of the long-running game shows sans audience came down today (March 9).

TMZ’s sources cited three big reasons why the crews are proceeding without a live studio audience:

1. Alex Trebek has a compromised immune system due to his stage 4 pancreatic cancer treatment.

2. The average audience member for both of these shows is in their 60s, and that age group and older have been deemed vulnerable to the coronavirus.

3. Many of the studio audience members are people from out of town and potentially from areas with widespread coronavirus outbreak.

Per The New York Timesthere are currently at least 539 cases of confirmed coronavirus across 34 states with a total of 22 deaths.
