Become our next Rock Girl!
As my term here at WRIF is nearing the end, it’s definitely a bittersweet feeling. I can’t even believe how quickly it’s flown by– as I knew it would. The station has begun it’s search for their 2018 rock girl and I’m honored to pass down the crown to the next lucky gal. Ladies, I highly recommend this position to any of you who LOVE music and love meeting new people and being presented with new opportunities. Here are a few things I’d like to voice from my personal viewpoint…
The last two years of my life as a whole have been the hardest yet, without a doubt. I tried out for rock girl as a way to focus my energy back on myself, and to get OUT OF MY COMFORT ZONE. Those of you who have met me know that I am extremely outgoing, not afraid to speak, get involved, and have a good time. I’m also an extremely laid back person. More than often I enjoy talking to nobody, and getting in my own head and just doing my own thing. I looked at this opportunity with WRIF as one to push myself forward, see my options, and WHY NOT just try something new– it’s only a year long and you literally do not ever know what will come out of it unless you try. I applied myself and I won. I don’t ever win anything lol. I’ve met some amazing people along this journey, and made memories that I am forever thankful I get to keep. I’ve met some phenomenal musicians through WRIF like Corey Taylor, Lzzy Hale and Halestorm, everyone from Korn, Five Finger Death Punch, Rob Zombie, Greta Van Fleet, In This Moment, Royal Blood, etc… A big thing I really want everyone to remember, is that this is not a beauty pageant. I’ve noticed many people seem to forget that. There will never be a day in your life where people won’t judge you, so go for what you want and let that be the only matter. Do you think I shaved half of my head for 5 years because other people would like it? No. And it doesn’t effect how well I perform my job, or anything I do in my daily life, and the most amazing thing is, it grows back. Being a rock girl does not just require you to “look cute and go to concerts all day.” You will quite literally be judged in trying out for Rock Girl, but personality and ability to be social and contribute to the company are a huge part of it. I strongly encourage you ladies of Metro Detroit to apply for this position. Be you. Be different. Be confident in you and if you can’t, pretend that you are, until it becomes real. I write my own reports every morning when I come in to the station, I use the equipment here to record them, edit them, send them in to be aired, write weekly emails to our mailing list, work events, write blogs, meet new people all of the time, and I enjoy what I do here. I am so very thankful that I had family and friends and even random people supporting my efforts in doing this, and I’m so glad I did it. Do something out of your comfort zone TODAY and everyday.
