New Music Breakdown: Chevelle, Evanescence, Grohl x Jack Black &… Kyle Mooney?
What’s up, Detroit Rock City? Jade here with your New Music Breakdown, and we’ve got a little bit of everything this week—new tracks from Chevelle and Evanescence, a Grohl/Jack Black team-up, and even Kyle Mooney trying to get serious (no, seriously).
Chevelle Drops “Rabbit Hole, Cowards, Part 1”
After four long years of silence, Chevelle is finally kicking the doors back open with a brand-new single: “Rabbit Hole, Cowards, Part 1.” It’s heavy. It’s moody. It’s exactly what you want from the Loeffler brothers. There’s no official word on a full album yet, but this track screams “we’re not done with you yet.”
Even better? They’re hitting the road with Asking Alexandria and Dead Poets Society. That tour stops at the Michigan Lottery Amphitheatre on August 19, and you know WRIF has your hookup—keep it locked for your shot to win tickets.
Evanescence Returns with “Afterlife”
Speaking of long breaks—Evanescence just dropped their first new track in four years too. “Afterlife” is dark, cinematic, and dripping with Amy Lee’s signature power. It’s featured on the soundtrack for the upcoming animated Netflix series Devil May Cry, which premieres April 3. You can check out the lyric video now and get a little gothic preview of what’s to come.
Jack Black + Dave Grohl = Minecraft Mayhem
Yes, this is real: Jack Black and Dave Grohl have joined forces for a track called “I Feel Alive,” and it’s going to be featured in the upcoming Minecraft movie (yep, that’s a thing). Jack’s on vocals. Grohl’s on drums. Chaos, comedy, and crunchy riffs ensue. The Minecraft movie hits theaters April 4, and there’s already a trailer up if you’re curious about how square-shaped Steve made it to Hollywood.
Kyle Mooney Gets… Serious?
In the we-did-not-see-this-coming category: SNL alum Kyle Mooney just dropped a debut album called The Real Me. It’s 11 tracks. It’s under 20 minutes. And according to Kyle? Totally not a joke. There’s a mini-doc that comes with the album, where he insists the Kyle M project is 100% serious. Whether you believe that or not, well… we’ll let you be the judge.
