Midnight Metal: What’s Your Favorite Heavy Metal Workout Song?
I love heavy metal music, and I love working out. Okay, maybe I don’t love working out, but I do it. I mainly do “fast walking,” which sounds so lame, but I also do stomach crunches and stuff like that. My point is that there are certain heavy metal songs that really get me pumping iron. So, we here at Midnight Metal are thinking of some cool workout jams.
I think the best heavy metal workout song of all time is Iron Maiden with “Run to the Hills.” It’s just perfect for a long walk, jog or run. A quick search on the web also finds that a lot of fitness pros have that track on their workout playlist. A Spotify playlist put together by Bodybuilding.com has some great picks for a workout, including Metallica with “Motorbreath,” Amon Amarth with “Destroyer of the Universe,” Testament with “Over the Wall” and Killswitch Engage with “The End of Heartache.”
Another Spotify list by Tunes of Metal has artists such as Powerwolf, Blind Guardian and Silver Bullet. Wow. I have to say that Killswitch song is one of my favoirtes of all time, but I would consider it more metalcore than heavy metal. My personal favorite heavy metal song for a workout is Mastodon with “The Wolf is Loose.” It doesn’t get much better than Mastodon in my book. While much of their stuff is slower and sludgy, this track is fast-paced enough for a great workout. ~Anne Erickson
