Anne’s Band, Upon Wings, is Going Metal Again
Hey, guys! As you know, I front a band called Upon Wings. It’s a musical project that I’ve had for more than a decade. To begin with, this project was purely metal, with songs featuring operatic vocals and heavy guitars. But, the past year or two, I’ve also been releasing some dark-trap pop songs, which I’ve really enjoyed doing. In fact, my last two songs, “Deal Breaker” and “Bad Habit,” were both dark-trap with a strong hip-hop beat. But, that said, I’m going back to my roots with Upon Wings’ new song. I’m going metal again.
Before I get to the metal, I do have to say that I’ve enjoyed doing pop-type music. That’s so weird for me to say, because I’m a huge metalhead. But, honestly, doing different genres has helped get my music out there to a wider audience, and I’ve really enjoyed the hip-hop beats and vibes in my new songs. But, I was ready to get back to Upon Wings’ classic gothic metal sound with “Distant Memory.”
“Distant Memory” will arrive on Oct. 27. You can pre-save/pre-order it now, and for all the links, go to Upon Wings’ website. This song features longtime Upon Wings producer and guitarist Kevin Jardine, as well as awesome metal drummer Pepe Clarke Magaña of Kyng and incredible guitarist Patrick Kennison of Lita Ford’s band. When Kennison laid down the guitars solo and I heard it, I was like, “What?!” It is so epic, and I can’t wait for you to hear it.
I’ll also have a new music video for “Distant Memory.” I’m still doing my own videos, which is quite a task, but I enjoy the creative process. I think this video is extra special and perfect for Halloween. It has some creepy twists and turns. Stay tuned to watch. Reach out to me with your thoughts here. I’m hoping this song can help take Upon Wings to the next level, so that we’re considered one of the hottest newer metal bands out there. Okay, maybe that’s a pipe dream. But I’m going for it. Oh, you’ll also hear “Distant Memory” on Midnight Metal on WRIF in November.
