Did A WRIF Jock Inspire A Character On The New Season Of ‘I Think You Should Leave?’
If you aren’t familiar with Tim Robinson by now, I can only assume you’ve been living under a rock for the past few years, and have certainly stayed away from the internet. Tim’s hit sketch show on Netflix, ‘I Think You Should Leave’ has taken the world, and the World Wide Web by storm.
What you may not know, is that before Tim and his characters were everywhere he was right here in Detroit. Tim is a native of Clarkston, Michigan and even attended my alma mater, Clarkston High School. Not to make this about me, but Tim and I have a lot in common. In fact, a couple of months ago I was sent a plaque for being named Clarkston High School’s Class of 2009 Class Clown. That’s right, 13 years after graduating, I finally earned the award I very much coveted (who doesn’t include Class Clown in their Mock Elections??). I don’t know for a fact, but I assume Tim won that award when he graduated…but probably on time…as he was actually graduating. I like to say I won the award “post-humorously” as a play off “posthumously.”
I’m crying. I’ve always been bitter that my High School Mock Elections didn’t include Class Clown. How is that not included?? 13 years later I got the superlative I’ve always wanted 😭 thank you @csiclarkston pic.twitter.com/HjAyx0P6Sn

Being Clarkston High graduates isn’t the only thing that unites Tim and myself, however. Actually, we have a lot in common. Before ‘I Think You Should Leave,’ Tim had a show on Comedy Central called ‘Detroiters.’ I was called and got to apply to work for the show…but didn’t get the job. No hard feelings. Prior to that, I got to intern at Comedy Central my Senior year at Michigan State. It was a dream come true. So, we both have been on the Comedy Central payroll, which is neat having come from little ole Clarkston.
Now, I’m working at WRIF and our connections continue to grow…at least I think they do. I’m fairly certain that Tim, being a Detroiter, based a character on the new third season of ‘I Think You Should Leave’ on one of our WRIF on-air jocks. I truly believe it in my heart of hearts. It’s totally possible, too. Tim still has roots in Detroit and has family here. He visits time to time and even recently threw out the first pitch at a Tigers game, along with fellow Detroiter, Sam Richardson.

Given his ties to our city, I believe Tim has to be familiar with 101 WRIF. I’m not saying he’s a P1 who listens to Dave and Chuck The Freak every morning, but I would put money on it that he’s aware of them. He’s probably also aware of Jade, Meltdown, and the rest of the WRIF crew. Maybe even me? However, I’m confident that he is familiar with our own Steve Black because I have a theory that Tim based one of his sketch characters off of Steve and his likeness.
Don’t believe me? Think I’m grasping for straws? Why don’t you look at the pictures below and tell me that he didn’t base this character off of Steve. Try me. Compare the photo in the Tweet below to the provided picture of Steve and tell me there isn’t a clear resemblance. I’ll wait…

They’re even wearing the same shirt!! C’mon! I need to know if Steve Black was the inspiration for the character because I think Steve could have some residual checks coming his way for Netflix using his likeness? No? Am I the only one who sees it? I Think You Should Leave? More like I Think You Should Steve.
If you have more information on this theory and can prove me right, please reach out to me on Twitter. In the meantime, watch the show. It’s hilarious.
