Metro-Detroit Man Continues Jeopardy Hot Streak
On Thursday, Ben Goldstein, of Dexter, Michigan, won his 5th straight game of “Jeopardy!” The impressive streak has now qualified Ben for a coveted spot in the popular Tournament Of Champions that will take place later in 2023.
Winning his fifth straight game didn’t come easy for Goldstein, as his two competitors, Dan and Andrea, (from states we don’t care as much about) kept it close the entire game. In the end, as all great episodes do, it all came down to Final Jeopardy.

Amber was the only one of the three to get Final Jeopardy correct, and she ended up with $4,500 after wagering zero dollars on her response, hoping Ben and Dan would both wager a lot and lose and she could claim victory after staying put. Entering Final Jeopardy, Dan had $12,000 and Ben was in first place with a narrow lead at $15,200. It was anyone’s game. Like Andrea, Dan waged zero dollars; however, he got the Final Jeopardy clue incorrect and thus remained at $12,000. It was then revealed that Ben also responded to the clue incorrectly, and he waged $3,195 to end the game at $12,005…beating Dan by only five dollars.
Usually in Final Jeopardy, the wagers are planned strategically to edge out your opponent. This time, I was left totally perplexed, and it seemed like host Mayim Bialik was, as well. Why such a weird number? Why not bet a clean even $3,000? That seems like the more obvious wager. Or even $3,199 to win by $1. Why $3,195? I’m going to be thinking about this all night. There goes my sleep…
Ben Goldstein returns tomorrow, Friday June 23rd, to try to claim his sixth victory in a row. After five wins he currently has won $49,298. Good luck, Ben! Michigan is behind you!
