• How Meshuggah Tried to Changeup Their Sound

  How low can you go? That’s a question Meshuggah asked themselves after their 1998 album Chaosphere, according to a new interview with guitarist Mårten Hagström in Guitar World.

  “We started discussing different ways to come up with new things after touring the Chaosphere album,” said Hagstrom. “We wondered what would happen if we recorded three bass guitars, for example. Just to see how different the band would sound.” The band would instead record their 2002 album Nothing with 7-string guitars tuned down to sound like 8-string guitars, which the band would acquire and re-record Nothing with, four years later.

• Max Cavalera Discusses Split from Sepultura

  In a new interview, Max Cavalera clarified who was at fault for Sepultura breaking up.

  “A lot of people end up blaming my wife Gloria and the truth is we grew apart; we started hating each other, man. It happened to The Beatles and it happened to many other bands — Pantera.”

  Meanwhile, Igor Cavalera said that a reunion with Sepultura would be awesome, but that his recent tour, performing songs from Sepultura’s 1989 album Beneath the Remains and 1991’s Arise as Cavalera, is one he’s perfectly happy with.

• Matt Heafy Re-Imagines ‘Running up That Hill’ as a Metal Song

  Trivium’s Matt Heafy joined YouTubers Anthony Vincent and Steve Terreberry recently to take the Stranger Things phenomenon to a new level by reimagining Kate Bush’s Running up That Hill as a Master of Puppets-styled Metallica jam. Check out the video here! No word on if the cover will make the set list for Trivium’s recently announced Deadmen and Dragons tour, which will also feature Between the Buried and Me, Whitechapel, and Khemmis, but we’ll have the opportunity to find out when they come to The Fillmore on October 23^rd!
