  • Pantera Reunion

The biggest news this past week was the reuniting of metal icons Pantera for an upcoming tour.

Surviving members Phil Anselmo and Rex Brown put ink to paper to hit the road in 2023, according to Billboard, and will be joined by Black Label Society guitarist Zakk Wylde and Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante for what Wylde is calling a “Pantera celebration.” He said, “you’re celebrating all the mountains that Pantera conquered and crushed. I think it’s a beautiful thing.” Wylde will be filling in for the late-“Dimebag” Darrell, while Benante will be taking over drumming duties for the late-Vinnie Paul. Keep an eye on the Riff website for tour and ticket details.

  • Nita Strauss Leaves Alice Cooper Band, Cancels Solo Dates

After years of touring with Alice Cooper, Nita Straus announced last week that she would be leaving Cooper’s band and canceling the rest of her solo tour dates for the year.

The reason? She’s joined up with Demi Lovato’s touring band for a new adventure. While Lovato doesn’t quite mesh with Midnight Metal, if you want to see Strauss shredding it up that tour does come through Detroit on October 5th. Meanwhile, Uncle Alice confirmed that guitarist Kane Roberts, who played with Cooper between 1985-1988, will be rejoining the band for Cooper’s upcoming Detroit Muscle Tour, which hits Grand Rapids in September.

  • New Megadeth Songwriting

Megadeth drummer Dirk Verbeuren revealed in a new interview that two of the songs on the upcoming record are based on riffs and songwriting ideas he contributed. “Life in Hell” is based on a demo he put together at home, according to Verbeuren, and “Night Stalker” has one of the first riffs he wrote while visiting Dave Mustaine after joining the band.

  • David Ellefson Joins New Band

Former Megadeth bassist David Ellefson has joined forces with ex-Entombed A.D. guitarist Guilherme Miranda and ex-Decapitated drummer Michał Łysejko for a new heavy project going by the name Dieth. “The three of us have all been recognized in our respective bands and careers but at some point, we had to close the door on those exploits to let something new begin and now we have found it in Dieth,” said Ellefson.

Their first single, “In the Hall of the Hanging Serpent”, is currently streaming online. Check it out below!
