When you think of the funniest episodes of Seinfeld, what comes to mind? I picked out 5 of the funniest episodes of the hit sitcom.

Personally, I consider Seinfeld to be the funniest TV show of all-time. It cannot be topped. To each their own, though. If it’s not your favorite that’s perfectly acceptable. I just think it says something when the show has been off the air for nearly 30 years and is still quoted all the time. Seriously, we’re still using phrases from the show today–even if we don’t realize it! While nearly every episode of Seinfeld is great, some are, indeed, better than others. What do you think are the funniest episodes of the show?

What Are The Funniest Episodes Of Seinfeld?

As we all know, “funny” is subjective. What one person finds hilarious, another might not find funny at all. However, I feel like there are some episodes that stand above the rest and are widely agreed upon as being the funniest episodes of Seinfeld. There is a difference between being a funny episode and being a great episode. Just because a certain episode has a high score or rating on IMDb or Rotten Tomatoes doesn’t make it the funniest. That’s the same with any publication. Just because Vice or Rolling Stone calls it the funniest, doesn’t necessarily make it so. We have to do our own homework and research to find the answers! So, I did.

As a fan of the show, I’ve seen all of the episodes throughout the run of the show. Thanks to Netflix, I’ve been able to rewatch the show endlessly so it’s more than likely that I’ve seen the episodes more than once. After all that watching, you come away with some go-to episodes and some favorites. I’m sure you do as well. What would you consider the 5 funniest episodes? Go ahead and think about it for a second. Although, it might be best to not think and just spit them out. What are the episodes that come to mind first, because chances are high that those are the episodes you consider the funniest or your favorites. Everyone might have a different reason for picking out certain episodes. Maybe you’re a George Costanza fan. Perhaps you prefer the episodes that focus on Kramer or Elaine. There’s also a chance you have a soft spot for a recurring character like Puddy or Bania. Again, to each their own!

I’ve given it some thought and will list out 5 of the funniest episodes of Seinfeld below. To my surprise, some episode I really love didn’t end up making the cut. Only picking out 5 was tough! That meant gems like “The Outing” (Season 4) and “The Parking Space” (Season 3) didn’t end up making the cut. These pretzels are still making me thirsty, though. I’m sure you won’t agree with all of them and I encourage you to create your own list! I’d love to hear which episodes you like the most and find the most funny. Would any of these episodes end up making your list?

  • "The Jimmy" - Season 6 Episode 19

I love “The Jimmy.” It makes me laugh every time. The best (worst) of every character is seemingly brought out in this episode. Elaine dates the wrong guy after a bad assumption, George and his obsession with Jimmy and starts using third-person (“George is getting upset!”, Jerry doesn’t trust his dentist (played by Bryan Cranston), and Kramer is mistaken for a mentally handicapped person. There are so many great quotes in this episode and it’s entertaining every time. Prime example of what makes Seinfeld great.

  • "The Puffy Shirt" - Season 5 Episode 2

“The Puffy Shirt” is one of the classics, but it still makes the list. We’ve all dealt with a low-talker before and they can be hard to understand! Sometimes, after a while you just nod and laugh at what they say because asking, “what??” would come off as rude. We’ve all been there. This highlights what could go wrong by blindly agreeing to do something. Jerry does and ends up having to wear the ugliest shirt ever on a TV show. Meanwhile, George finally finds his calling but it doesn’t last long.

  • "The Contest" - Season 4 Episode 11

If you ask anyone what’s the best episode of Seinfeld, majority would probably end up saying “The Contest.” The episode is hailed as a favorite from both critics and fans alike. It even helped the show win awards, including an Emmy. It’s relatable and it’s hilarious. It’s still widely talked about today and for a good reason. No other show could have pulled it off like they did.

  • "The Marine Biologist" - Season 5 Episode 14

Again, “The Marine Biologist” is an episode that goes to show the dangers of lying. If you lie, you might end up getting caught in it and having to roll with it which could end up embarrassing. Well, that’s what happens to George. A woman believes he’s a marine biologist and he has to pretend to be one. Then, a whale is beached and needs help, so who do they go to for help? The marine biologist, of course. It’s what makes George the iconic character he is known for being.

  • "The Calzone" - Season 7 Episode 20

One of my favorite things on Seinfeld was when Larry David would voice Yankees owner George Steinbrenner. There’s something funny about him doing the voice but not the body. “The Calzone” features a lot of Larry as Steinbrenner and it’s hilarious every time. The lines and writing are funny and so is imagining Steinbrenner actually being like that. We know he was one-of-a-kind but not like this! It’s a funny exaggeration and has become one of my favorite episodes of the show.
