Dave is always trying to blow our minds with knowledge bombs. Sometimes he does smaller, less impressive “knowledge nuggets”, but today was a truly mind-blowing fact. Did you know that in Florida, they pay private citizens $150 to carry out the executions of death row inmates? We didn’t. Do you think you’d be able to handle getting paid to kill?
According to the Florida Department of Corrections, the executioner for death row inmates is a private citizen who receives a $150 payment. Their identity can be made anonymous as well. People can apply to be the executioner and after a selection process, are able to carry out death row executions. Pretty crazy.
So, of course, we have to wonder who on the show would be willing, or able, to carry out an execution. Andy is in. And, Lisa is in. Now, Lisa says it would have to be under the right circumstances. For example, if someone were to harm a member of her family, then she’d be signing up. Also, she’d want to have a face-to-face with the person before the execution which we all find hilarious. Chuck and Andy role-play the scenario with Lisa and a death row inmate about to be executed.
Andy says that at a certain point in his life, it would have been a no-brainer. As a man who has donated plasma many times, he thinks getting paid to kill is way easier than donating plasma. Dave can’t believe that, but Andy assures him, giving plasma is not a walk in the park either.
