New Scientific Scale Can Tell You How Kinky You Are
A new scientific scale can tell you how kinky you are. Let’s introduce you to the Kink Orientation Scale!
Have you ever wondered your your personal kinkiness compares to your peers around you? Is it normal? Now, there’s finally a way to tell with the new Kink Orientation Scale.
New Scientific Scale Can Tell You How Kinky You Are
Thanks to this new scientific scale, you and your friends and family can now sit around and talk about how kinky each of you are and where you fall upon the scale. It’s the bonding activity you never knew you wanted nor needed.
According to PsyPost, “kink” encompasses a wide range of sexual practices that fall outside of the range that the majority of people would consider “normal” sexual activities. PsyPost points out that “These practices can include power dynamics, the exchange of control, the infliction or reception of pain, and the use of specialized gear or objects to enhance sensory experiences. Do you sexual interests fall within any of those categories? Then you have yourself a kink!
However, the term “kinky” can be a bit subjective and fluid. What kinky means for one person might not be considered kinky for another. Sometimes, you actually enjoy acting on these kinks. Other times, they can simply be fantasies. Now, Liam Wignall of the University of Brighton and his team are trying to bridge that gap. Wignall tells PsyPost, “My research explores how people engage in kink in different ways, as an activity, identity, or behavior. Previous studies have overrepresented people who identify as kinky, missing out the key voices of people who practice kink, but not community (or the social aspects)–I discuss this more in my book, Kinky in the Digital Age. I wanted to develop a measure that allowed research to identify and potentially recruit other people who could take part in the research on kink.” He just had to plug his own book in that quote, eh?
What Is The Kink Orientation Scale?
Wignall’s Kink Orientation Scale allows for better analysis and understanding of kink. According to PsyPost, the Kink Orientation Scale follows a rigorous multi-phase methodology aimed at creating a reliable tool for measuring aspects of kink engagement. It focuses on dimensions of kink including attitudes, practices, desires, and identity.
In the end, it’s a concise 18-item scale that they believe successfully captures a broad range of kink-related experiences and perspectives to determine your level of kinkiness. You can read more about the Kink Orientation Scale here.
