What Mishap Led To The Arrest Of A New Jersey Father And Son?
It sounds like this all happened at a graduation party. It’s supposed to be a time to celebrate a new chapter, instead things quickly turned traumatic. According to NBC New York, Thomas Kaiser, 60, and his 28-year-old son Erich were arrested after police received a call regarding at least one injury following an explosion. The New Jersey father and son were charged with aggravated assault and possession of an explosive device.
NBC New York reports that a 34-year-old man was treated for lower torso injuries at the scene and had to be airlifted to a trauma hospital. Despite being 200 feet away from the blast, he was still struck by metal shrapnel, per NBC New York.
Thankfully, a trauma nurse was on scene for her godson’s graduation party and was able to step in and help. Neighbor Dayna Cammacho tells NBC New York, “It was like a wartime injury, it was horrible. If they weren’t there, he would have bled out in that field and died.”
NBC New York reports that investigators say the New Jersey father and son allegedly tried to set off a signal cannon, which is designed to create a large boom and a smoke cloud after being ignited. However, the entire metal canister is believed to have exploded in the middle of the street sending shrapnel as far as 100 yards, per NBC New York. That’s a full football field! The 4th of July is a very dangerous holiday! It’s best to stay safe and use common sense if you’re going to use (or even be around) explosives. There are horror stories every year!
