A beekeeper was honored after saving the day at an MLB game! Have you ever seen a standing ovation for a beekeeper at a baseball game? Sometimes the biggest heroes on the field aren’t in uniform.
A bee colony caused a nearly 2 hour delay to a game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks in Phoenix, Arizona. However, none of it would have happened without Matt Hilton.
Beekeeper Saves The Day At Baseball Game
It was a strange scene at the ballpark that afternoon. The National Anthem had already played and the players were preparing to play when a bee colony began quickly forming on the field.
According to USA Today, Diamondbacks Vice President Of Baseball Operations said, “I got a call about five minutes before game time from our senior manager of events. She usually doesn’t call me at that time, I knew something was odd. She said, ‘We have bees landing on the net, right above home plate.'”
They found out there were not hundreds but thousands of bees forming on the field. They were informed the game could not begin until the bee colony was removed. They tried to entertain fans the best they could playing punny songs like “Let It Be.” Then, they called up Matt Hilton to take care of the problem. So, Hilton left his kid’s t-ball game and went to the ballpark to play hero.

He arrived, did his thing, and cleared the bees earning him a standing ovation from the crowd. Additionally, he got to throw out the first pitch for the game. Just like that he had become a hero. The game went on to be a good one, too!
It’s an amazing scene and great to see an ordinary guy like Matt become a national hero for his brave actions. I know I wouldn’t want to be anywhere near all of those bees. What’s up with all of these bee stories lately? Spring has sprung!
