Company Reveals Most Dangerous Job in Each State
Zippia is an online “market-leading Career Map” which allows its users to find careers within their experience.
Recently, they strayed away from their typical job searches in order to reveal the most dangerous jobs. According to their findings, “some states are significantly more dangerous to work in than others and within those states some careers are physically riskier than others.”
With millions of jobs in the world, how could one company conjure up such a list? Well, they searched 19,937 reports since 2015 to help them see which jobs have the most incidents.
By looking at the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s injury reports, they calculated the number of incidents involving “hospitalization or loss of a body part.” Yikes!
Researchers also used the Bureau of Labor Statistics to tally up any fatalities while on the job. We know, super gruesome of a task for these people!
If those first two statistics were not gruesome enough for you, they also calculated the number of vehicle accidents. Using information from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, they calculated the number of “accidents resulting in injury for every mile driven in each state.”
In their findings, it was revealed that the ten most dangerous jobs are:
- Roofing and Construction Contractors
- General Medical and Surgical Hospitals
- Oil and Gas Operations
- Postal Service
- Grocery Stores
- Electrical Contractors
- Road Workers
- Plumbing, Heating and Air
- Warehouse Workers
- Poultry Processing
Even though it did not make the top ten list, working for the US Postal Service is dangerous in 11 states. According to Thrillist, a lot of the injuries while on the job include being attacked by a dog! Yes, the actual cliche is a reality.
Those states that are the most dangerous include:
- South Dakota
- North Dakota
Do you yourself have one of these jobs or live in one of these states? You better be careful!
