For whatever reason, ever since the lockdown I’ve gone to the movie theaters a lot more. Most likely because my kids are grown up and no longer have after school activities and whatnot. I probably see about twenty to twenty five movies a year in the theaters. Just a pro tip, Emagine theaters have a deal on Tuesdays for $5 movies and a free small popcorn if you sign up for their program. It’s worth it! I hit up the one in Canton on Tuesdays to see all sorts of movies, mostly horror ones. For me, it’s all about the atmosphere. I love kicking back and turning on the heated seats to watch the latest movies. I’d be lying if I said I saved my popcorn and snacks for the movie to start. Guilty as charged.
Interestingly enough, out of the top ten films of the year at the box office, I only saw one of them. I did not sit through Barbie, Avatar, The Little Mermaid or any of the others. I did see Oppenhieimer though. I’m not sure that will make my favorites of the year, but it was good.
By the way, these movies are from the theatrical releases, and streaming services.
There were some solid movies in 2023. Like I said, I watch mostly scary movies so a lot of the ones I liked were from that genre. I did see some historic movies, those seem to be the very long ones. I’ll speak to that on another post coming up soon.
That being said, I see a lot of crappy movies also. I’ll do a post before the end of the year for my favorite movies, but here are some that aren’t so great, with one I wouldn’t recommend to leave on as background noise for your pets. It was suppose to be scary. The only scary thing about it was how much time I wasted watching it.
Here’s to hoping 2024 brings us some great movies to lose ourselves in for a few hours. Now to the worst of the year from me, Meltdown.
