The Canton Emagine Theater.

As the year starts to close, I thought I’d post about some of my favorite movies of 2024. I’ll also tell you which one didn’t reach the mark as far as I’m concerned.

I typically see a movie a week in the theaters. I love watching movies while chowing on popcorn, and other snacks I smuggle in. SHHH!

Yes, I saw the latest Ghostbusters movie and it was decent. I thought Gladiator 2 was pretty good. I haven’t seen The Substance yet but I’ve heard good things, it’s on my list. Annibel and The First Omen are worth a watch. The Crow was so-so. Night Swim wasn’t bad. The latest Alien movie was worth a watch on the big screen. Lisa Frankenstien was an hour and a half I’ll never get back. Smile 2 was good. Venom: The Last Dance was a good watch too.

Also, I’ll be watching Kraven The Hunter next week, and Nosferatu soon. I can’t wait! I’ll post a review of both.

That being said, here are some movies I liked, with one that absolutely sucked. Here we go….

  • Deadpool & Wolverine

I loved this movie. Let me just say that I’m not a huge superhero movie guy, but I’ll watch them. That being said, I didn’t catch some of the inner “superhero” stuff, but you don’t need to know about the background minutia too much to enjoy this film. Maybe one of my faves of the year.

  • longlegs

This movie had some decent buzz, and I’m always looking for something a little off the beaten path. This bizarre film stars an almost unrecognizable Nicolas Cage. Killer, wild movie! I need to watch it again.

  • terrifier 3

Yes, I liked this movie. Like the other two in the series, it’s dumb and fun! I can hardly wait for the next, and maybe final installment from Art the Clow.

  • in a violent nature

Some people didn’t like this. I don’t know, it stuck with me for a few days and it was different. A sleeper of a film for 2024. Oh, and the death scenes were epic!

  • saturday night

I thought this movie was decent. It follows the cast of the first-ever SNL 90 minutes before air. The thing that got me was how well some of the actors played real-life SNL cast members.

  • the watchers

I thought this movie was solid. It kept you wondering throughout.

  • Furiosa - Mad Max

I guess I’m just a sucker for these futuristic movies since I saw the first one as a kid.

  • strange darling

This was another sleeper in 2024. I loved the way this story was told, in 6 parts out of sequence. It was an original thriller movie with lots of twists and turns.

  • WORST MOVIE OF THE YEAR - Joker

Man, I wanted to LOVE this movie. I couldn’t wait to see it. My daughter even warned me. “Dad, you know it’s a musical, right?” I did, but I was hoping for the best. Why they sang and danced I’ll never know. Lady GaGa sucked and shouldn’t have been involved in any way. Just awful!
