Putting together a list of my five favorite albums of all-time wasn’t an easy task. Only five?! That means a lot of my favorite records are getting left out. That doesn’t seem fair, but such is life.

After stressing out and finally landing on the final five, I noticed they five finalists have a lot in common. They’re all “rock” but different types of rock. You get some laidback rock, beach rock, California rock, pop rock, classic rock, and alternative rock. Clearly, not a huge metal guy, but some of it falls into the category.

Here are my five favorite albums of all-time (subject to change day-to-day).

  • 5. "Chocolate and Cheese" - Ween

The fifth spot on the list was actually a toss up between two Ween albums: Chocolate and Cheese and The Mollusk. However, Chocolate and Cheese edged out The Mollusk, and not just because of the iconic album cover. Chocolate and Cheese is the album that introduced me to Ween, which would go on to become one of my favorite bands. The album is stacked with amazing songs like Baby Bitch, Voodoo Lady, A Tear For Eddie, Freedom of ’76, What Deaner Was Talkin’ About, and more. Did I just rattle off the whole album? No, but pretty much. Chocolate and Cheese showcases the best and the weirdest of Ween, and I am here for it. Hail Boognish.

  • 4. "Morning View" - Incubus

From start to finish, Morning View doesn’t miss. You get Nice To Know You, Wish You Were Here, Warning, Echo, Are You In?, Mexico, Aqueous Transmission, and more. It plays like a best of album with great track after great track. You get all sorts of moods and energy in this album, too. Nice To Know You rocks hard, Wish You Were Here has a little bit of everything and then some, and can you think of a more relaxing chill tune than Aqueous Transmission? I can’t.

  • 3. "Loverboy" - Brett Dennen

Brett Dennen is my guy. He’s been my favorite since I first discovered him back in 2009. Not to brag, but I’m even in his music video for Comeback Kid (That’s My Dog). While I’m admittedly a huge fall of all of his albums and love them all, I can’t sit here and tell you I love them all equally. Loverboy stands above the rest. It delivers funk in songs like Queen of the Westside and Must Be Losing My Mind. Good vibes in tracks like Dancing at a Funeral and Can’t Stop Thinking. Then you get thoughtful optimism in songs like Walk Away Watch Me Burn and Only Rain. I can play this album in good moods, bad moods, road trips, and more. There’s never a bad time for Brett Dennen’s Loverboy.

  • 2. "Moondance" - Van Morrison

Moondance was a big album for me growing up. My parents often had it on repeat on vacations, so I was basically raised on it, and I’m very thankful for that. It’s not only one of my favorite albums of all-time, but it has to be one of the greatest ever for all, right? You get hits like Into The Mystic, And It Stoned Me, Crazy Love, Brand New Day, and more all wrapped up in one convenient album. There’s not one skip on this album, and it’s so easy to listen to. You can have it in the forefront or the background, it’s perfect for any occasion.

  • 1. "Continuum" - John Mayer

After putting some serious thought in it, I realized that Continuum is my favorite album and I truly think it’s a masterclass and deserves to be in consideration for best album of all-time. There’s Slow Dancing In A Burning Room, I Don’t Trust Myself (With Loving You), Waiting On The World To Change, Vultures, Gravity, Belief, Stop This Train, I’m Gonna Find Another You, Belief, all of them! There are no skips on this album, and my oh my does John jam his heart out on this one. So many great riffs and solos, on top of great lyrics. It’s in a league of its own. He created a timeless masterpiece with Continuum.
