With the evolution of CGI and other special effects in the movie industry over the years, the world of monster movies can feel “real” in a sense. Over the long-storied history of monster movies in cinema, we’ve been truly spoiled with amazing movie monsters. Iconic monsters include Godzilla, King Kong, Alien, Predator, The Thing, and so many more. We have an abundance of monsters to see on screen.

The movie monster genre has always been one of my favorite movie genres. So many iconic monsters have appeared on the big screen over the years. There are some genuinely unique Godzilla films that I always cherish; aside from Godzilla, you, of course, have King Kong. But there is an entire universe of monster movies that range from horror genre to downright silliness. Sure, you have the near-gag movies like Sharknado, Ice Spiders,  Piranhaconda, Sharktopus, Dino Croc, and the worst of them all, the Jersey Shore Shark Attack.

The Strongest Movie Monsters

Yes, those are all movie monsters, which is what the mainstream public thinks of when talking about monster movies.  But the genre has so much better to offer than that. When you think of great movie monsters, it’s a creature of immense power. Whether that directly translates to incredible physical strength and power or mysterious abilities that make said monster incredibly dangerous.

Some are supernatural beings like Pennywise and the Clown, and others are towering brutes who are unstoppable forces like Godzilla. This is why the monster genre is so fascinating. There are endless possibilities in the genre. We’ll explore what movie monsters are the strongest of them all and what powers they possess. We’ll cover horror monsters, iconic creatures, and even surprising technicalities. Checkout my list of the seven strongest movie monsters below

  • Godzilla (Legendary)

Godzilla from Legendary Pictures, sometimes called “The American Godzilla,” is an absolute tank. While there are more robust versions of Godzilla, I’d argue that none are as well-rounded and battle-tested as Legendary Godzilla. Sure, he benefits from human intervention occasionally, but even still, he is a force to be reckoned with. The number of Kaiju he defeats throughout the four movies is genuinely remarkable. No monster on this list can take on Godzilla in a fight; even if they could deal significant damage, he would recharge or return fire with a nuclear blast that would eliminate threats. There’s a reason Godzilla’s only actual threats reside in his universe; even Superman had trouble dealing with him in the comics!

  • Pennywise The Clown

Pennywise from Stephen King’s “IT” is a menacing entity that torments a town called Derry for what seems like an eternity based on the history books. Pennywise is a shape-shifting alien who was on Earth for millions of years and hibernated until humans appeared. Pennywise feeds on people’s fears and will take on the form of whatever his prey is most afraid of. It is a genuinely terrifying concept, and what is scary is it doesn’t seem like the entity can be killed. Only repelled, even though it appears to have been killed for good at one point, there are several references that Pennywise cannot simply be killed for good.

  • Alien (Xenomorph)

While perhaps not inherently the most physically strong monster on this list, The Xenomorph in the Alien franchise is an agent of chaos. The sole objective of the Xenomorph is to establish a hive and grow. The most chilling thing is that it will seek out new hosts to gather, impregnate, and kill anything it deems a threat to the hive. They’re solid for their size and a potent threat to humanity. Not to mention, the Xenomorph Queen is essentially unkillable without explosives.

  • The Predator

We can’t have the Xenomorph on this list without discussing the Predator. Another Alien species whose goal is to hunt other species for sport. Otherwise known as “Yautja”, Predators are incredibly deadly. What’s terrifying is that Predators supposedly keep returning to Earth because it’s “entertaining to hunt humans.” Predators possess superhuman strength, extremely high intelligence, regeneration powers, and fantastic speed and are all equipped with cloaking abilities.

  • Michael Myers

“Why Michael Myers? He’s not a monster; he’s human?”. At this point in the Halloween universe, Michael Myers is no longer flesh and blood; he has become an evil entity or a force that cannot be stopped. There are several times in the latest sequels that no living being would survive the injuries that Michael Myers sustains. Michael Myers cannot die because Michael Myers is not alive. He is an unstoppable evil entity capable of always returning and killing endlessly.

  • Freddy Krueger

Freddy Krueger is a supernatural force that is supremely powerful. Created out of sinister circumstances, his powers are unmatched regarding killing. He doesn’t need to kill you when you are your strongest. He simply waits until you’re asleep, where he has the power to destroy you right there, and never allows you to wake up to defend yourself. His power literally comes from word of mouth. This means that when people speak about him and spread the word, he can affect an entire city at once!

  • The Thing

From John Carpenter’s 1982 film “The Thing,” this creature is terrifying. Not only because its appearance is unnerving at best. It’s because it can take the form of your best friend and trick you into thinking everything is okay until it’s not. Yet another extremely hostile alien that has slaughtered its fair share of humans for reasons unknown. What is known is that The Thing is a force to be reckoned with.
