Sir Christopher Nolan and Dame Emma Watson: Husband and Wife Honored by King Charles III
Christopher Nolan, director of the epic biographical film Oppenheimer, and his producer wife, Emma Thomas, were recognized for their contributions to the film industry. Nolan, 54, was knighted, while his wife Thomas, 53, was honored with a damehood.
Nolan and Thomas were among those who received honors during the Investiture ceremonies held on December 18. According to People, the news that the husband and wife would receive a knighthood and damehood was reported back in March.
King Charles a Fan of Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer
Nolan said in an interview with Sky News Australia what King Charles III told him during the event, “He said he has seen Oppenheimer and enjoyed it. It was very nice that he knew our work and was aware of it, and yes, he was hoping that I would take this as encouragement to do more of it.”
He added that it was “really wonderful” to meet King Charles and that receiving the knighthood with his wife, who was honored with a damehood, was “very special.” Thomas said that receiving the honor was “mind-blowing.” She admitted that she had “never even dreamed of anything like this happening.” She agreed with her husband about receiving the honor together and that it was “more meaningful,” per The Independent.
When asked what’s his advice to budding filmmakers, “Find a good partner.” He added that their partnership helped them to “achieve so much more together than we would have been able to individually.”
What’s Next for Nolan?
Nolan is reportedly preparing for a star-studded cast for his next movie that he will write and direct, with his wife Thomas returning to produce. The director is normally secretive about upcoming projects, but he’s already cast actors he’s worked with in the past. Matt Damon who Nolan worked with in Interstellar and Oppenheimer, Anne Hathaway who starred in The Dark Knight Rises and Robert Pattinson who starred in Tenet are all included in Nolan’s latest project.
Tom Holland, Zendaya, Charlize Theron and Lupita Nyong’o are also part of the cast. The movie is expected to start shooting in early 2025 with a release date of July 17, 2026. However, as per Deadline, sources mentioned that the loglines previously published are wrong. Details about the movie are still being kept under wraps.
For now, the only official detail about the movie is the release date which aligned with previous Nolan films and the casts.
