Why Did Hendrick Motorsports Drop Hooters As A Sponsor?
Why did Hendrick Motorsports drop Hooters as a sponsor? Turns out, you have to pay your bills!
On Dave & Chuck The Freak, we’ve talked about a lot of restaurants that have been in financial trouble lately. Red Lobster is the first restaurant chain to come to mind. However, it looks like Hooters is also struggling in the money department. Sure, the short shorts are nice and the wings are tasty, but the most important part of being a sponsor is the paying part.
What Made Hendrick Motorsports Drop Hooters As A Sponsor?
So, why did Hendrick Motorsports drop Hooters as a sponsor? The restaurant seems like a good choice for a sponsor! According to ESPN, Hendrick Motorsports made the decision to drop Hooters as a sponsor saying the restaurant chain couldn’t meet its financial commitment to the NASCAR team. I guess what they say is true, “you can’t just sit there and look pretty!” The popular chain known for it’s scantily clad wait-staff (and wings) had sponsored the No. 9 car driven by NASCAR Cup Series Champion Chase Elliott dating back to 2017.
The Hendrick Motorsports released a statement on the chain not paying its bills saying, “Due to these unfortunate and unexpected circumstances, and despite extensive efforts on both sides to identify a workable solution, it became necessary for Hendrick Motorsports to end the relationship,” per ESPN. This is merely the latest hurdle for Hooters, as they have reportedly closed more than 40 locations across the country that were underperforming. It’s a bummer because it’s a fun restaurant to go to and the food is actually very good! It’s not all about the wait-staff. Seriously, they have some of the best wings on the market! If you haven’t had them, hopefully you get the chance one day.
Hooters has been a staple in the NASCAR world since the early 1990s, putting its logo on the car of series champion Alan Kulwicki. Hopefully, they can make a comeback. All they need is some celebrity like Flavor Flav to come along and champion them. I’m sure there are many willing celebrities who could take on this cause. What’s Tommy Lee doing these days? Save our Hooters!
